Recommended bait for fresh water fishing?

Soon I am going fishing in Florida. It is in a freshwater canal near the Miccosukee resort, and I wanted to know which type of bait would be best. Artificial or live, and if live what kind of animal/insect/worm?

Public Comments

1. I would suggest using an animal/insect/worm for bait.

2. Live would be the best. I always use worms which can catch a variety of fish. Hot dogs also work. I have caught about 20 catfish in one fishing trip with hot dogs alone.

3. NIGHT CRAWLERS/worms/....<&>....CATAPILLARS

4. chicken livers

5. I am a pro angler and when I am freshwater fishing I use powerbait, worms, bugs, bread, even corn sometimes, you have to use a lot of different varieties of bait to see what the fish want on that day. GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!!!!

6. Worms and minnows are always good, but insects like grasshoppers you catch in the area around your fishing hole are good because the fish have seen and probably eaten them before.

Grasshoppers are always jumping around blindly to escape anything that is coming and they frequently land in the water to be eaten by fish. That is why the fish will go for them.

7. any of your bait will be eaten by all the smaller invasive cichlids that have been dumped in florida canals. your best shot at a bass will be with plastic worms and other artificials. especially topwaters like a rebel pop-r. if weeds are a problem, rig plastic worms texas style but weightless and fish them on top and in the weeds. soft bodied plastic frogs are another excellent choice.

8. Simple earthworms are the best
