I found a Largemouth Bass/Northern Pike hybrid a couple of years ago in michigan, what type of fish is it?

I used to have a picture of it but due to a virus on my computer the picture is gone. The fish had a black stripe across its sides, was green in color as if it were a bass, but it was a pike! Ive dont reasearch on this and its not a grass pickeral. What could it be?
This fish is not a fake at all. If i still had the picture i would show you. But the hybrid musky might be it then.

Public Comments

1. A fake fish. Pike are very aggressive and would destroy a bass, not mate. The pike would eat the bass.

2. Not knowin' a' whole lot about Northern Pikes (never fished em'), so I'm takin' a wild shot ie., hybrid Muskellunge aka "Musky" ? < * { {{ > <

Note: Added your question to my "Watchlist" hopin' someone can clear it up, not only for your personal knowledge but, my own ;)...

3. Seems to me it would be a BIKE. You can peddle that garbage somewhere else.

4. sounds like a walleye

5. No way they would have mated as they aren't in the same genus. What you saw was probably a tiger musky or a hybrid between a pike and a muskellunge. Walleye are another possiblity as another stated. They can be dark green in color with stripes sometimes. A picture would help, possibly Google images? Good luck fishin'!

6. Uhh... yeah, that's cool. You caught a largemouth bass/northern pike hybrid... and I'm a Chinese jet pilot.

I have a pet Munkawalleyepottamus... hybrid monkey/walleye/hippopotamus... wanna see?

7. It is impossible for largemouth bass and northern pike to interbreed.

Animals can not interbreed even if they belong to the same family. For example, bluegill, crappie and largemouth all belong to the same family and there are no hybrids between any of them. Human and gorilla belong to the same family and the differences are very obvious. Largemouth bass and northern pike don't even belong to the same family.

Only creatures with same genus can interbreed. (Cole said exactly that and he is absolutely correct) Horse and donkey can interbreed. Smallmouth bass and largemouth bass can interbreed. Largemouth bass and striped bass can not interbreed but white bass and striped bass can. Northern pike and muskie (muskellunge) can interbreed to produce tiger muskie. Northern pike and walleye can not interbreed because they are too different. Northern pike belong to a small genus and they don't have many living close relatives they could interbreed with; almost all of their close relatives were fossils.

It would still be fun and very interesting to see a computer generated pic of northern pike and largemouth bass hybrid though. :)

PS: The term "BIKE" was very funny. LOL

8. The way I see it, you have a couple options here:

1 Contact the Smithsonian Institute about your "Bike".
2 Walk or have someone drive you to an optometrist to get your eyes examined.
