Tips for fishing for Smallmouth bass off Shore?

I'll be at a lake for the next week, and will be fishing off of a dock which goes a good distance onto the water (so the water will be relatively deep compared to just fishing straight from the shore line). The main species I'll be going for will be smallmouth bass... any tips on what to use and how to use it? Artificial lures or natural bait... im good for anything

1. will depend a lot on the lake. which lake?
crayfish will work for smallies anywhere. candy.
but some lakes some artificials may work just as well.
do you have quagga mussels and round gobies in your lake?
the use of gobies is generally frowned upon but smallmouth love them and there are some artificial ones (soft plastics) that will give a good showing of themselves.

2. You could drop-shot a smaller finesse worm or fluke-type plastic bait. Jigging a tube is another option. Jigging a spoon is also a way to get a bite.
