1. All fish when they are small are merely a source of food for larger fish. But when any fish gets to be a certain size they are too big for most fish to eat and depend on their swimming ability to get them away from danger. But they still fall prey to the larger size gar fish and alligators if they are in the south.

Bass are like all the other species of fish. They are at the mercy of the world when they are small.Out of the thousands that hatch out in each batch of eggs, very few survive to adulthood.

2. I would like to include on their dorsal fin they have some spiked fin rays towards the front of the fin. Other fish like catifish, walleye, panfish, and etc have it also. Helps protect them from getting eaten by other fish

3. LMB are ambush predators. that means they hide in the weeds and shadows to lie in wait for some unlucky bit of lunch. their coloration helps to camouflage them.
this same protection helps hide them from predators. and if they live long enough, their size helps. they themselves are the apex predator in many ecosystems.
