What is the best bait to catch smallmouth bass in a creek with very clear water, in kentucky.?

4. Dude, a live worm, rigged on a set of gang hooks. Let the worm bounce naturally off the bottom as it tumbles downstream. The technique works great. Don't use line heavier than 6 lb. test!

6. I've always had huge success at local creeks in KY using go-devils (or helgrammites if you want to get technical). I've always seined for them myself, but I suppose they're available in local bait shops (I can't say I've ever seen them at bait shops, though). Their skin is so tough that on many occasions I've caught 3-4 fish on the same go-devil. The only downside is that you have to hold them right, because they'll pinch the heck out of you if you let them.

My very best fishing days have always been at Elkhorn creek in Franklin county using go-devils. You should definitely give it a try.
