Are large or smallmouth bass better suited for adverse environments?

1. Probably the smallmouth as they like cold water and adapt to warmer waters too , but they are mostly cold water fish

They tend to have fewer problems with habitat.

3. The small mouth reigns in the swift waters of the Delaware,while an occasional large mouth lurks in the slow to still side waters,catching one is a pleasant surprise. So if the large mouth can survive in an unsuitable environment,then he is better suited. If small mouths coexisted in a Florida lake or canal he would be equal,I suspect they are.They don't seem to cross bred,I never saw evidence.

I would think the largemouth bass for the very reason that they can easily stay alive in water temps over 90 degrees where as small mouths don't do too well in water at temperatures going over 80 degrees. Just like largemouths don't like fighting river currents small mouths do. Adverse to me is a multitude of factors all of which can be explained off but can not be ignored. By using water temp alone large mouth bass are best suited for sure. I had to come back to add that large mouths do much better in small ponds without being stream or river fed where the never changing water would be toxic to a small mouth.

6. It would be the Largemouth no doubt. The Largemouth thrive in any waters they are put in.They can handle the colder waters of the northern states and the hot waters of the deep south states. They have a much larger number of states that they are thriving in then the Smallmouth. If a Smallmoth were to be put in some of the hot muddy waters I fish in for Largemouths they would not last 24 hours. But put a Largemouth in the colder waters that the Smallmouth do well in and he will survive also.It's not even a close contest.
