How heavy are the largemouth bass in Prospect Park, Brooklyn, New York?

I need to know if the largemouth bass in prospect park can be supported by a medium action 5'6 spinning rod with a 4lb line.

1. Supported as in just lifting the rod up with the fish dangling down? That's never exactly the smartest thing to do, especially with a medium action rod with 4 pound line. Your line or rod will eventually break on you. When you get close enough to the fish, lip it. If you mean reel them in, it depends on the size of the fish, and how well your drag is set. 4 pound line can handle decent sized fish as long as the drag is adjusted properly. If you find yourself consistently hooking onto bigger Bass, I'd consider switching to a 6-8 pound line to be safe. Normally, 4 pound line is best for fish like Bluegills and Crappie.

2. I rarely fish there with less than 10lb test. There are some big bass there, like I said, I've caught 5 pounders and I know there are 8-9 pounders. Advantage for Bass to get big is that in the 5 boro's of NYC no fish can be taken out of any NYC park lake, strictly catch and release. Imagine you hook a 9 pounder and your 4 lbs test line snaps at the first head shake.
