1. Once eggs are laid and are fertilized by the male, they will hatch in 2 to 10 days, depending on water temperature. Once hatched the fry will live off the attached yolk sac for several days while they grow. About a week after they hatch, they will begin to turn completely black and gradually begin to disperse from the nest.
