i fish the delta in California .

Public Comments

1. Bass is my favourite fish.

It's spectacular and combative so for this I use surface lures like poppers. I enjoy watching the acrobatics those fish are capable of when they charge the lure from below.

2. l fish castaic for stripers and use live shad when l can get them. lures, otherwise.

3. bunker or clams

4. Well if I`m not using Lures I`m using Live eels. Maybe just maybe clam, but they cant pass up a live eel.

5. take it from another cali guy who fishes for striper....the best bait depends where you fish...in the san luis reservoir....i use night crawlers, shad (live), mudsuckers, bull head mudsuckers, anchovies, chicken liver, pile worms, blood worms, ghost shrimp, grass shrimp (shimps are mainly leftovers from sturgeon fishing in the delta in sac area), mississippi silversides, minnows, etc....you could say that i use many things but it depends on the time of the year and what exact location im gonna fish from....and i think everyone would agree about having live bait over dead frozen bait any day...other then that night crawlers are one of the best all around baits to use...but i think i prefer to lure with my top water spooks...

6. I use a grey streamer with a 1/0 hook with a 8wt fly rod.
fun, fun, fun!

7. up here in maine i use live mackeral..i spend the first hour or so catching a bunch of mackeral then i either cut then up into quarters or put a whole one on a hook

the absolute best bait if you could find it is live eels..i caught a live eel once while trout fishing a pond and kept it for stripers--i caught a 48 inch lunker striper with that eel

8. I fish the delta all the time for da sturgies and line sides, the most success I've had in the delta is shad minnows. you butterfly and put them on your hook works great.best place in delta is down stream from rio vista bridge about 500 yards or so where the clam beds are to the power lines on the east side ( across from boat launch and city hall ) of channel. also cut mackkerel work really well also the meat is a little tougher than sardines or anchovies and stays on hook a little better.

9. I like to use Rattle Traps and spoons in winter for striped bass. I use the rattle trap in the early morning near shore or 25-50 feet from shorline and cast even with the shore and bring accross. Make sure you rip it a few times and then pause.

For cooler mid-day, I move to deeper water and use silver spoons. Drop all the way to bottom and reel up a few time and lower rod tip up and down. No bites? Reel up another turn or two and repeat.

Hope it helps.
