how to fish for smallmouth bass in slow deeper parts of a river? I have fished for Smallmouth Bass my whole life. I usually fish rapids shallows and pools. The faster water is where I tend to find them. Behind rocks and in some shallows. Well I have moved and now I live on the river. I have taken my canoe out a few times I have found myself in deeper slower water which I dont now how to fish. I really have never used crank baits much for smallies but would like to start. I know soft plastic worms and jigs are some things I should try but I really wanna land a nice smallie on a crank bait. The type of water I have come across tends to be six to eight feet deep. Very slow moving. Lots of downed trees and large rocks. The clarity tends to be about 3 foot down after that its not very visable. I have beat the banks with a chartuse and black crank bait with no luck. Any tips on what I need to use or what I need to do about this slower deeper water?

Best Bait For Small mouth ??????? In your opinion what is the best bait for smallmouth bass in a river setting?
Trolling for Smallmouth bass? I'm fishing on a lake in northern Wisconsin. I plan to canoe with a few poles out the back at about 10 ft deep of water (the weed line). I've never done this before, so I don't really know what kind of bait/rig would be. Oh yeh, the water is crystal clear. There's a good chance that I would also be fishing over sand b/c when there are no weeds, teh bottom is total sand. I don't have a lot of stuff to pick from, so multiple suggestions would be great. I do have lots of fake worms with twister tails on the end, in case those would work. Thanks!
Smallmouth Bass fishing? Live in the suburbs of MN and get to stay at my cabin near Int'l Falls for summer vacation. Small-mouth bass fishing tips? I am going to a fishing derby strictly for small mouth bass next weekend and I really want to win!! What are some good tips for catching large smallmouth bass? I generally tend to use live bait instead of lures, but I guess i'm willing to try anything. Its a smaller lake keep in mind. Thankss!!!
Huge largemouth bass wont bite? There's this spot i have gone too for the past few days and these huge largemouth bass keep circling in this shallow area. I have used a small pink spinner, a gummy, and a 1.5 in spoon, all these bass do is look at my bait and continue on swimming. In this same spot i am catching smallmouth, rock bass, pirch and crappy. I only want to catch one of these largemouth and they wont bite.
Effectiveness of Berkley bait? Yesterday I bought a pack of Berkley scented nightcrawler bait. These are the plastic worms you buy in the pouch covered in that stinky liquid. They said it's supposed to be the best. Today I went fishing for bluegill and smallmouth bass, and after several hours only got one bite (1 smallmouth bass). I used a small hook and cut some of the bait worms up so they were small enough for bluegill, but they'd come up to it, take a look, then swim away. Does anyone else have this problem with the bait?
I need some help and advice on fishing for bass, walleye, and northerns.? Okay so im going to my cabin this weekend and they have a lake over there with both largemouth and smallmouth bass, and northerns and walleye. Its mostly bass, but they have a smaller population of walleye and northern. The fishing rod I have has a bobber on it. I want to go fishing for mainly bass this weekend. So where should I go to catch bass (middle of the lake, shallow spots, near weeds, etc). Would you reccomend fishing off a dock or going on the boat and going towards the middle of the lake? what kind of bait should I use? And how should I set my fishing rod up (should I use a bobber, should I use a sinker, how many sinkers if so, etc). Also, what bait and fishing rod set up, and location is best for walleye and northerns? Thanks in advance! By the way, im not the most experienced fisherman as you can tell

berkley powerbait and berkly gulp? what r some good berkely powerbaits and berkley gulp baits to catch smallmouth bass in the north west?
mysterious top water feeding fish? What could they be? So today I was at a freshwater pond in delaware, frequently fished for its largemouth and smallmouth, and stumbled upon a secluded lagoon-ish body of water that looked relatively unfished. After a couple of minutes, I noticed at least thirty fish ranging from 12"-24" long swimming along the surface. Many of the fish were swimming in a manner similar to sharks, with their dorsal fins poking out of the water. They would come up to the surface and all I could really see was the side of a large fish shine at me and a swirl of water popping out of nowhere. It started to rain and they started going crazy, doing the same thing at a fast pace. I could not see what they were due to it being a cloudy day and relatively murky water. They weren't biting anything I threw out there; crankbaits, different colored spinnerbaits, in line spinners, and rubber worms. Although I know this is a shot in the dark, I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of what the fish could be from similar experiences, and why they are not taking my bait. The website for the pond says that it has pickerel, catfish, carp, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and striped bass. Any ideas?
new to fresh water fishing, have questions? me and my dad have started to go fishing in the Delaware river and we dont exactly know what were doing. we fish from the bank, so we dont get it out super far. anyway i have a bunch of different kinds of lures and whatnot but i dont really know how to use them. spinning baits: we have like 10 of these spinner baits (look like these http://www.bassclubdigest.org/summer08/products/Rooster-Tail.jpg) now are we just supposed to cast and reel them in, or do we like let them sit out there, or do we let them float down stream? should we cast upstream or down? The next lure i have i dont know what its called but heres a picture http://www.tackletour.com/images/picmgbtlivejig40.jpg mine look like that but smaller, about the length of a pinky finger. i have never used this one but i know it floats, so how do i fish with this bait. "softplastics": i have some of these but dont use them either. do they even catch smallmouth bass, or a different fish. how do i put the hook in. and again, how do i fish with it. i should say that we fish for smallmouth bass and we occasionally catch pickerel
I need some fishing tips!? Ok, here's the deal. I am an avid fisherman, I fish a lot for panfish on lakes in Wisconsin. Here's my problem, I live close to the Kishwaukee River in northern Illinois, and I can't seem to catch anything on the river. I've only ever fished lakes, and I'm getting beat on the river. I know there are smallmouth bass, carp, and northern pike in the river. It's not a huge river, and I know I'd have best luck going for carp, but I'm more interested in bass and pike. Any suggestions? I've caught a few small bass, but not many. I've tried worms, spinners, crainkbaits, just about everything I can think of. Any tips for bait or particular methods or places to try would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.
Have you noticed how certain people answer questions? They always use the same thing? For instance, FishSteelhead uses all these crazy letters, smileys, etc. Here's my impression of him answering a "best smallmouth bait" Q. What is the best lures for smallies? Welp, it differs from the people you ask dont it <<<;) ;( Well, dem smallies are the only type A' balack bass i fish for deeze days ;) stopped with the "big-mouths" a while back ;))<<<<>>>> When you hook dem here smallies they fight like a d___ coal train ;) But as mentioned these here soft plastics catch ye' fair shar' of 'em smallies. ;o >>>><<<<< Haha just picking on you! So, what's one characteristic in the way you answer deez days ;(?
Spinning combo for bass? Around $60? I was wanting a Spinning combo to use for fishing Jig-Head (mostly 1/8oz or 1/4oz) and Grub combination along with 1/8oz and 1/4oz In-Line Spinners, maybe even 3" or 4" Texas-Rigged Stick-Baits (Senko's, Dinger's, etc) and the occasional 1/8oz or 1/4oz Buzzbait. I have heavier set-ups for larger lures but I don't have anything worth a crap for fishing anything under 1/4oz. I've looked at the Shimano Sienna's for $30, which I have a friend that has a Shimano Syncopate which is the same reel as the Sienna just with a quick-fire trigger, and it's extremely smooth and casts great. I'm gonna run 8lb Monofilament, normally Trilene XL on them. Using them for Stream fishing (might get to do some Stream Smallmouth fishing) but also for Lake fishing, targeting mostly Largemouth Bass. If you have any other suggestions for a reel UNDER $35 that is trustworthy and that is some-what smooth, please pitch in. Also I'm looking for a rod to go with it, for fishing those above lures I mentioned. I was wanting something Medium rated for lures down to 1/8oz (NO lighter) and up to about 1/4oz or 3/8oz or maybe even 1/2oz. I've saw the Bass Pro Shops graphite series rods for $25 which fit the bill. Also the Field & Stream rods for $25 fit the bill. If you have any more suggestions, please contribute. Was wanting something 6'6 (prefer 7' for lake fishing but want something shorter so I won't have a lot of trouble in streams) Once again I'm fishing lures from 1/8oz to 1/4oz, using 8lb test, targeting Largemouth's in streams and lakes and also Smallmouth's in streams (occasionally).

Freshwater fishing tips.? When i was younger i did alot of freshwater fishing. I mean tons. I did tournaments and all that good stuff. I was a really good fisherman. But a few years ago i gave freshwater fishing up for saltwater. I was wondering if you could answer a few of my questions? 1. What is the best color spinnerait, Crankbait and rubberworm to use in a dirty or murky colored river? 2. What is the best Artificial Bait to use in a reservoir for largemouh and smallmouth. 3. What rod should I buy? I usually fish for bass (smallmouth, never caught a largemouth) and I use crank baits, plastic worms, spinner baits, and occasionally stink baits when I'm fishing for catfish. What type of rod should I buy? And would it matter what type of reel I buy too? I am planning on buying a baitcasting reel.
CA fishing regs, trout in livewell? i was talking trout fishing, and fishing in general with a friend of mine, told him i like to get my fish home still alive so they get on the grill within 30 minutes of their last breath. he shared this with me: 4.00. Bait-General E. No trout may be maintained or possessed in a live condition in any container on or attached to any boat; http://www.dfg.ca.gov/regulations/FreshFish/ccr-t14-ch2-art3.html does this also imply to trout not intended for use as bait? on waters where no fish preys on trout? IMO trout is the best tasting fish there is. i dont want to trade a trout for a striper. and if i'm keeping a trout, its probably 2 or more pounds, i'd never use something so large, caught plenty of big bass of many different species on much, much smaller tackle/bait. some of my biggest fish have been on some of the smallest tackle..... BTW, i do fish at del valle in livermore sometimes, where they have trout, striper, smallmouth and black bass. would that be one place i should really not keep them alive? i see poeple with stringers full of still flopping trout there everytime....
Spotted bass in pond? Hey guys I don't know for sure if this is the the heading to post this under but i figured people will still end up reading it. Me and my fishing partner have a pond we've found with a lot of what we believed to be largemouth bass. After reading an article online on spotted bass saying that the spots look just like largemouth but are normally smaller in size and fight like dogs made me start thinking about our pond. The majority of the fish are on average 1.5lb but fight like dogs! We catch them mainly on Red Eye Shads and power worms. The fish we catch on more of a "largemouth" lure like a big bass jig or big spinner bait seem to differ. They are normally bigger, around 2lb and don't fight nearly as hard. So my question is this. Could it be that the pond holds largemouth and spotted bass? It seems we catch them on things normally used for smallmouth but also on bigger lures normally for largemouth. Then the difference in the fight. But I'm beginning to repeat myself lol. So any help would be great. Possibly how to tell the difference for sure not just on opinion. Thank you
Bass fishing question? What's the easiest way to catch smallmouth bass on a worm or live bait

Big K: Black Bass trivia, Behavioral attributes? Largemouth bass: What conditions are bass most active? (temp, and light conditions) Dim or bright? Smallmouth bass: When bass are feeding... and you are using lures (artificial bait) Why is it so important to set the hook fast as you possibly can? Spotted bass: What type of habitat is preferred for this speceis (rocky gravel covered bottoms, sandy timber covered bottoms, Grassy weedy vegetation covered bottoms? Cool running stream or river? Warm still lake? etc) One more Bass trivia coming tommorow... Good luck! This one is fairly easy. Also GMB if you read this. Why not take another crack at my previous trivia question? I did not mean rock bass at all! It was not my intention for anyone to answer that becuase I didin't even consider people misnamed small-M's as "rock bass" Big kahuna is awesome so far... This is the most activity I've seen since... This is THE MOST activity I have seen here! Sorry for part 1 I meant "what conditions are largemouth most active) And for smallmouth I meant "when smallmouth's are feeding) I assume it might be figured (hence the name before the part of the question) but just to be sure. Ole fisherman... Exellent!
