What would be the best lure to go with for winter largemouth bass fishing in eastern long island? I know deeper waters and slower retrieve...but its still tempting to use my old standby a light colored jitterbug. Is it pointless to use a top floating jig in the winter? I fished a rattletrap and jig & pig at Ronkonkoma for six hours yesterday with nary a bite. Has anyone fished the Northwestern side(opposite of the falls) of Southard's with any success? Whats the best overall advice for today's trip? Thanks!!!

Do I use sinkers when using a frog lure for largemouth bass fishing? Is it necessary to use sinkers with a power frog (a rubber frog lure made by power bait co.) lure when fishing for largemouth bass, do you want the frog to sink or float on the surface. There are plenty of frogs at the pond, and I would assume not use sinkers, although ive noticed when a frog sees me near they swim underwater and then pop back up after a certain distance. oh yes I have a jig hook on it, duh me, thats what the little ball at the end is for, awesome!

Largemouth Bass fishing <3 part Question..>? We have a nice size pond behind our house (South Florida). We discovered how fun fishing was a few months back and have enjoyed catching and releasing the Large Mouth Bass found in that pond. By no means are we pro's, so with the help & knowledge of the staff of our local sporting good shop we get some nice rods, some senko worms and manage to reel in about 5-8 Bass a day, the largest measuring about 23 inches. Question 1.) Lately, the past week, we have yet to reel any in? It seems like all the Bass have disappeared.. It has rained lately, but would that have an effect? Are Bass intelligent enough to "remember" the "fake" worms and start to react less? Question 2.) There are also some, rainbow looking fish that hang out right at the shallow part of the water, and hang out in these circular burrows. The never react to or lurers or worms, but does anyone know what type of fish they are? Question 3.) One night we reeled in a Gar, any advice for catching more of those? WOW!!! All These answers are extremely helpful, full of detail and packed with greatly appreciated information.. I thank all of you for taking the time to write all of this. THANK YOU!! The rainbow fish are normal sized, not minnow. They make these round burrows in the sand and are grey and when the sun reflects on them it looks rainbowish..
Suggestions for good Southern Bass fishing lakes in the Spring? From Northern Illinois, we usually go to Arkansas but are going to change it up this spring. We mostly fish for Largemouth Bass and Stripers. Usually go in April or the first week of May at the latest. Kinda want to keep it within 15 hours or so drive time. I've looked into several lakes such as Lake Fork, Tx. Barkley/Kentucky, Ky. Any suggestions would be great.

What brand baitcasting rod should I buy for largemouth bass fishing? I've been looking at a Pflueger echelon rod and reel combo at a local outdoor shop and they are about $105.00. Is there another brand I could get for the same price that might be better? I've heard the Pfluegers are good. I'm used to using a spinning rod, but I've used a baitcaster before. I'm aiming to catch a biggg bass this spring/summer and I need a rod that can handle some bigger line so I can man handle these fish lol

best options for summertime largemouth bass fishing? I'm in MN and my husband and I are kinda stuck on fishing with topwater lures, but the bass really aren't hitting them now that it is later in the season. I wasn't having a lot of luck with a 10" dark purple plastic worm, either, and we both fiddled around with how long we let things sit, how fast we retrieved, etc. they weren't going for a white spinnerbait either, both the worm and spinnerbait being fished at various depths in about 8 feet of water in various kinds of weeds. any simple tips on what works better? do we need to be fishing deeper water, for example?
Largemouth bass fishing in december? this weekend in north carolina the weather is supposed to be pretty nice out, maybe mid 60's. I plan on fishing some medium sized ponds ( couple acres ), since the air temp is going to be higher than the water temp (since it just snowed a little and has been really cold all week), will the bass tend to want to come up to the surface more than usual, or will they just stay deep? i plan on using jigs or tubes.... any other suggestions for cold waters?
