Smallmouth Bass Fishing Questions? Hi I live in Door County, Wisconsin. One of the top fish here is the smallmouth bass. Last year I fished for it a lot. I fish off of docks that are very rocky around it. There are a couple large rock formations which I can see bass swimming in. The other day no lure was working so I tried a wacky worm. This worked great and I caught 4 nice sized smallmouth. I am very interested in this fishing technique now. I am wonder what size hook I should use and what color wacky worm. Also if you know what size my rod should be that would be great. Thank you.
What would be the best lure to go with for winter largemouth bass fishing in eastern long island? I know deeper waters and slower retrieve...but its still tempting to use my old standby a light colored jitterbug. Is it pointless to use a top floating jig in the winter? I fished a rattletrap and jig & pig at Ronkonkoma for six hours yesterday with nary a bite. Has anyone fished the Northwestern side(opposite of the falls) of Southard's with any success? Whats the best overall advice for today's trip? Thanks!!!
What large mouth bass lure should I use? I am new to bass fishing and was wondering what the best lure for my situating was. I usually fish for bass in shallow water, 3 feet deep tops, and in murky water.
What is the best way to catch bass in these two locations? 1) A pond that is 1'-4' deep it is only about 1 or 2 acres. I have tried almost all lures and worms and have only caught one bass with a Top-Diving lure that is silver with a light blue on it's top and part of it's head. I have tried shiners but once again no luck, and I know that there are bass in there. 2) A 2,534 acre lake, once again I have tried almost everything and I have caught only one bass with a dead shiner that I was reeling in, the bass came and took it. The fishing areas(That are on land, I don't have a boat) range from being 5'-(around) 8'. Extra Info) Both bass where about 3 or 4 lbs and where 12-14" in length (I did not get exact information) And both areas are pretty weedy.
Bass fishing survey????? Name your top 5 lures and brand names, for catching bass
What is one moment that revolutionized bass fishing for the good? The invention of the plastic worm will be at the top for me. I don't know who made it, but the guy had to be smart. (Not really, since it's just a plain stick looking figure, sometimes with a curly tail.) Bonus Question : What is the most expensive lure you have ever bought?
fishing for largemouth bass? ok so im going to my moms, step sisters, property and they have 2 tanks (ponds). and i wanna go large mouth bass fishing. i want to use lures, not worms. no plastic bait LURES like crank bait spinner bait etc. so i dont know how big the bass are but i think they stalked them with 1 lb last year. and this is the dallas texas area so its warmer. i dont know the kind or size to fish with but i need to have equipment for all of mamorial weekend. i will not be doing ANY night fishing because there are ALOT of snakes around there. i would like to know the brand, type, size, price, where to buy, and a link of a picture if possible. i would like every thing to be at bass pro and cheep and i need equipment that is good for 1 lb. bass and higher because i have no idea how big the bass are. also i would like some info on perch/blue gill but i think i have that covered just some worms for them. i would like to use top waters, crank baits, any thing, thats a lure.
what type of lure is best for bass fishing? when i say type i mean hard bait (crankbait, jerkbait, diver, top water, spinner, etc.) I fish in warm muddy water thx
Does anyone know what the fresh water fishing is like in New Zealand? Can someone fill me in, I'm thinking about moving and I love to fish for Bass, and Muskie... I know these fish don't exist there but is there anything alike? Are there any Ranger or Nitro type fishing boats availiable there(low in the water bass style)? I know trout fishing is good, but what else freshwater, preferably top lure.
Best place to buy fishing lures? or tackle, whatever it's called.. My boyfriend is an avid fisher, specifically Bass. I know he fishes for just about anything, but Bass is at the top of his list. I wanted to get him something for his birthday but I'm thinking of just getting him a gift card to Cabela's or Bass Pro or something along those lines. I want to make it worth my money and have him still find stuff he can use. Where is the best place to go?!
Bass fishing help.? What are the top 5 or so must have largemouth lures. I am fairly new to bass fishing. What colors for time of year? Is a bait caster a good investment. I will be fishing mostly in northern Wisconsin, where the ice dont break until april or so. Does water temp matter a lot? All advice welcome. THANKS

What artificial bait to use to catch white bass and bream from shore (by shore i mean standing on the bank? As the question asks, i am new to the area im in, and the easiest thing to do atm is fish, and the area im going to they catch channel cats, white bass, and bream. im good on the channel cats but as for white bass and bream i have never fished for, nor cant find much info on how to and what to use to catch them. i just recently bought some artificial bait, some crayfish, of a few differnt sizes, then i also have some little grub looking lures that have a spinning tail. then some lures that have a hook on them and it looks like a eye of a fish tword the top of the lure. also got a small bass lure that is in a U shape sorta and on one end its fuzzy with a hook in the center and the other end has a flashy spinning metal piece. now i might not know the names of these lures lol but im not new to fishing. i have just not used lures much i have stuck to night crawlers real grubs ect, but i would just like some info on which artificial bait to use to cath some bream and white bass. please and thank you. also info on where to find them if im standing on shore.
Can anyone please tell me what freshwater fishing is like in New Zealand? Can someone fill me in, I'm thinking about moving and I love to fish for Bass, and Muskie... I know these fish don't exist there but is there anything alike? Are there any Ranger or Nitro type fishing boats availiable there(low in the water bass style)? Whiskeytown fishing (clear water tips)? i need some insight on fishing at whiskeytown lake in north state, CALIF. im use to fishing in 'the delta' and cant get used to the crystal clear waters of whiskeytown. the other source of my frusteration is not having a boat. is there any tips for sucess you can share about fishing off the banks of whiskeytown or other clear ass waters? what line is best? is there a kind of braided line that is suited for clear water? A couple more of my frusterations are: they dont let you use live bait, its hard to reach deep water while fishing from the bank, and the water is freakin cold so the bass dont hardly become aggresive. the temperature warms up in the summer at like the top 3 ft of the surface. I'd like tips on bass fishing with bait, bass fishing with lures in shallow, and summer trout fishing in shallow.
Fishing lure concept? I am new to lure making so I thought I'd start small. I was lucky enough one day while bass fishing to catch a large 1.5 lb shell-cracker, popularly the hardest fighting fish for its size in the world (which I agree with). Now I loved how it fought just as hard as a bass twice the size and came up with a lure that would be great for them. As you can tell from it's name, the shell-cracker cracks shells, such as snails and mussels. Originally I was going to make a snail lure, but then I came up with a GREAT idea. I would make a mussel lure that would hav two parts: top and bottom. The top part would float at the joint and with a jerk of the rod it would close and make a "clack" sound. There will also be a hole in it for attractant. So, what do you think?
I'm going bass fishing this weekend and i need to know what lure to use.? I'm going bass fishing at a local lake in northern california it's going to be october 27-28 and i was wondering what should i use. Spinnerbait, crankbait, plastic worms, top water or live bait. I'm not sure how deep it is. Oh, and unfortunatley i don't have a boat so i'm going to be fishing off the bank.. the water there is not to clear but its not so muddy you cant see your hand right in front of your face. lets see the water temp is around 60-70 degrees theres large mouth and small mouth there. So anyone have any suggestions? And i'm going next weekend to so you can still answer after the 27th Thanks! OOPS!!!! I just look at the lakes home page and the lake temp is acually 45-60 degrees Sorry
Has anyone ever used a dual-blade buzzbait? The spawn has started and I have had alot of luck sight fishing for bass with top-water lures. I have seen a dual-blade buzzbait at academy that looks like it would really make bass mad...the only thing is that its pretty big and i fear it may be too big and scary for some bass (i guess that means ill just catch bigger fish). What do you think.....what would be a good color for murky water...?
what to use when fishing after a storm? hi, as many of you may know we had a big storm up here in the Northeast. Tomorrow is sup post to be a sunny and a lot better so I am going bass fishing. should i use a specific lure after a big rainstorm because they might be feeding top water or down low? or should i just fish like its any other day? -thank you
Im entering a fishing tournament for small mouth bass, any good tips? Im entering a local fishing tournament soon, for Small mouths, muskie, and walleye. For the tournament im going to target the small mouths, I dont fish for river small mouth bass, I generally fish the local lake for Large mouth, and fair pretty well. Ive tried useing some of my large mouth tactics for smallmouths with out much success. I fished one spot on the river the other day with a friend, we had no luck all day, until the evening came and the small mouths started smashing topwater lures then they just turned off again. The ones we did catch on top water luers were small but we did catch a few 2 to 3 pounders. Does any one have any tips or tactics on how to locate and catch these small mouths during mid day or any other time? Which lures you think work best and how to use them? How to catch even bigger smallmouths? The river we will fish for the tournament is very shallow, most of the river i see is only 3 to 5 ft deep and shallower. There are some pockets of 5 to 7 ft. But i dont think it gets any deeper then that. Any advice, tips, and tactics will be appreciated, thanks!!
What is the Trick to Catching Peacock Bass? I always use a top walking lure which catch fish but always the small ones? I understand the larger 20 pounds are in the deepest part so how do you bring them to the surface with a top walking lure? Is there a lure or style of lure they will hit on when at depth at the bottom of the lake or do they only hit on top water?
i am going fishing at a lake with bass, pike, muskie, and other agressiv fish and i am going to use a jitter bug would you agree to use it on top water so they carge it or should i use a depper lure to atract it.
What types of lures and sizes would be good for catching bass and gar in this pond? I've caught 2 largemouths in this pond both on a black, silver and white crankbait but haven't been consistent. I see shortnose gar all the time and I've also caught one on the same crankbait but I think that was pure luck. Besides the bass and gar, all I've seen are redear sunfish. I'm posting a overhead pic of the pond below. It doesn't seem like the water is more than 8 ft. deep at any point. You can see about a foot or two down into the water from most areas of the top portion. The skinny strip at the bottom is more of a deep green color without much clarity. It isn't private and I've never seen another angler there while fishing. I primarily fish from the top side of the water located in the top left in the picture, but I have moved all over without any real luck. Thanks for your help guys. http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h231/dondreb/water.jpg http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h231/dondreb/Me/water.jpg
Are catfish known to hit lures? Just wondering as I was bass fishing at a local pond yesterday. (Pensylvania). I was using a jigheaded Mister Twister. I hooked into a big fish. I wasn't sure how big it was at first. I then got a pretty good feel of the fish and it started taking drag out. It then felt pretty big! I got it up to surface and got a quit glimpse of it before it spit the hook. All I pretty much saw was the top of the fish. My friend's son also said the dorsal fin looked kind of strange. At first we thought it was a big bass, but I thought it looked kind of brown. My friend's son said the same thing as he saw it briefly too. It looked kind of brown and maybe kind of longer and a liitle sleeker than a Largemouth. Maybe their are catfish in this pond and maybe that's what I had? Thanks! Jack I never thought of a Walleye. Who knows, very well could have been. I'm not really sure of what all is in this pond.
i need some help with fishing? i need to know when bass fishing when is it good to use top water. and i need to know when it good to use crank baits. also i would like some good lure you would suggest me to buy. and is it always good to use live shiners. also i have use wacky rig i don't have much luck with that any suggestions. could i have some link to the lure to buy.
Why is carp fishing not popular at all in the usa? I see all the time how, the UK or other European countries have carp fishing right at the top. Yet, the U.S doesn't think of carp fishing popular at all. I've fished for every fish before, catfish, carp, bass, panfish, walleye. And carp are the hardest fighting of any of those, yet they don't have any respect? They're not nasty little things that just dirty up the water, they're my favorite sport fish! At second i would put catfish. I just don't like it, in bass fishing you're continuously moving throwing a lure here and there and reeling, jigging, popping. I'd rather get some dough ball with 3 rods and lay them out while I'm enjoying myself. So, why isn't carp fishing popular in the United States?
Where is the best place to fish the lower Saluda River in Columbia, SC? I am new to river fishing and I have lots of access to the lower Saluda River in Columbia SC. I don't seem to have any luck when fishing on the river (wading and from the bank). I have tried everything from plastic to spinners to top water plugs. What type of lures should I be using to catch fish (preferably bass) and where should I be fishing?
fishing line.....braided or not?????? for bass fishing i am using a plfuger reel. on my surf and peir saltwater reels i am using braided line, but i have never used braided line on my bass reels. question is would you use braided line on a spinning reel or not. i am going on a fishing trip that has a lot of top water mats and other top water plants and i know that braided cuts through things like that better than mono. does braided line cast light lures as well as mono line. i have heard pros and cons about braided on spinning reels. i also read somewhere that a backing like electrical tape or other things is needed on the spool before spooling braided on a spinner. what do yall think. i know that braided line is a very good line for fighting big fish but like i said i have only used it on my BIG reels. what do yall think about the whole thing. thanks and good fishing
What is the best BASS lure? I am fishing off the shore, water is about 5 feet to 15 feet deep, Light sea weed at the bottom and occasionally some on the top. What is my best bet?
fishing off a dock in the brazos river (texas)? lately ive been fishing off of a dock on the brazos river, i'm really wanting to catch some pretty good size large mouth bass, for the past week ive gone fishing from about 10pm to 4am every day and a fish or two will jump up out of the water maybe every 15 min (judging by the splash they are decent sized fish) but i havent even got a bite yet! ive been useing top water lures, rubber minnows/worms, and some rapalas or whatever they are called? what is the deal? how come i cant catch anything? what lures should i use? what colors? how fast should i reel in? tell me what you have had the most luck with at night?
How do you catch largemouth bass in the early Spring? The pond I'm going to is rather small, less than five acres I believe. The temperature these days tops out at 60 degrees and the pond has a max depth of 5 feet at some spots. The pond also has a wide range of "sunnies" or those relatively small fish which can be found everywhere. Where should I fish? What kind of lures should I use? When should I fish? And any other tips would be much appreciated!
Need help Fishing in Bay Area Lake? So, I am getting frustrated because I have gone out to a local lake at dawn to do some bass fishing twice now, and both times have come up completely empty handed. Both times I have seen bass feeding (completely leaping out of the water). Most recently, I would see about 5 different bass breaking the water for every cast and reel. Many times right next to my lure. I think that they are feeding on top, so I tried 2 diff spinner baits, and one rattler thingy. Any help would be appreciated. Water is murky, with about 2 feet max visibility.
Bass Pro Spring Classic sale? Do they tend to have pretty good deals on their baits and lures? I've gone to this sale in the past but mainly for the rods and reels. I really need to stock up on several different baits before I start fishing pretty heavily again. I was planning on going to Bass Pro this weekend but the sale doesn't start until next weekend, not quite sure if it's worth wating until next weekend or not. I need to purchase various top waters, crankbaits, and plastics.

going fishing this weekend.? where i live we have had consistent weather in the 40's for a few weeks. which means ponds that were locked up are now basically thawed. so i have decided im going to hit this small pond because im starting to get cabin fever. last year around this time i caught a 5+ largemouth bass just after the ice out on a top water frog. but this was definitely just a fluke. so i hae some worms, but im more of a lure guy. so with water temperatures still Very cold, any lures you guys can recommend for me? i plan on throwing a few jigs and stick baits, but anything else you can think of? the pond i am fishing in is fairly small, and does not get to deep. but should i stick to cover close to shore, or fling it out in the middle? i also have small little ice fishing jigs that i could possibly put a bobber on with a worm for some sunny or pickeral possibly.
what is a good large mouth bass lure/jig? I will be fishing on a boat near the banks on a lake, there is often weeds so i mainly use non swimming senkos(the ones without the tail), or top water poppers.... there are also places that don't have weeds, so i have a couple rapalas for that... and i was wondering what some other jig/lure/spinners,etc. work good for bass fishing (i know there are a million different options, but which ones have you had luck with) type of senkos i am using: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0023324118375a&navCount=10&podId=0023324&parentId=cat604364&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&cmCat=MainCatcat20166-cat604364&catalogCode=IA&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat604364&hasJS=true
stocked bass pond help (trip tommorow)? i've gotten a tip from some residents in the area of this pond that the people who stocked it caught a 7 pound largemouth and put it in the pond about 5 months back. I've been fishing here once since then and caught about a 4 pound and didnt have anymore luck. So if you would please give me some tips ( lures, tackle, weights, bottom fishing, top water, suspending; anything) oh yes i live in northern florida..weather says its going to be low of 85
Is Gary Y.'s swim senko in green pumpkin the best fishing lure for bass ever? I thought the 5" senko in green pumpkin was the best sinking bass worm type lure, BUT then they came out with the swimming senko and now it is the best top water "baby snake" lure ever for Florida. Do you know a better all round lure?
Buying bait and lures for a fishing trip this Saturday. Please help.? I've always loved fishing but never gone that much and the last time I went I was 9 so I had a Hulk fishing pole. I bought a new pole called an Ugly Stik and its an open top reel I think its called and I've been practicing with it all day and I think I've got it down. I'm buying bait and lures today and I need help knowing what kind of stuff to get. I'm going lake fishing. I think its called fresh water fishing, not too sure on that. And I really want to get fishing and catch my first fish! So the only fish in the lake are Trout, Bass, Crappie, Bluegill, and Channel Catfish. They say all of these fish bite throughout the year if that helps. Best answer from a fisherman himself gets the 10 points. The lake is named Silverwood Lake and is located in California. I believe its located in Hesperia about 2 hours away from Los Angeles.
Why can't I catch catfish? I have recently picked up a fishing habit. I found a local pond which I discovered to be full of Largemouth Bass - the largest I have caught so far was almost 4 pounds. I have been fishing for about a month now and I have gotten quite good at catching the bass on "Ribbit" frog lures, Texas rigged worms, Carolina rigged worms, spinnerbaits, and "Rattlin Rapala" lures. Anyway, I recently found another pond which I figured may contain bass as well, so a friend and myself went up there hoping to reel in that 5 pounder! Naturally, I tried the Ribbit frog lures first because I love to see the Bass hit the lure on the top of the water. After an hour or so I had no luck, but my friend chose the "Rattlin Rapala" and to my surprise, after 2 or 3 casts he reeled in a little 1 or 2 pound Blue Catfish! I tried spinnerbaits, jigs, Texas and Carolina rigged worms, but I had nothing! During that entire time, my friend reeled in about 5 or 6 catfish - one which was just over 6 pounds!!! And all on a "Bass" fishing lure! Naturally, the next day we went down to the store to get some Catfish bait and Earthworms, and I even soaked some hot dogs in garlic! We were thinkin' we were gonna have a great day of Catfishing ahead of us. We were wrong! We didn't get a single bite on the Stinkbait or any other lure. It seems like the only thing those Catfish are interested in is "Rattlin Rapala" lures! What gives? I know there have to be some much bigger catfish in that pond. How do I catch those suckers!???
Top Water Bass Fishing Lure? Hello, It is now towards the end of summer. I am seeing bass now coming up to the surface, instead of staying down low, and eating bugs, minnows, anything they can get their hands on. I would like to get a lure for this. I am looking for a single hook lure (Not a treble hook!) that resembles anything from a bug, to a minnow, Preferably rubbery. I need it to also, as I stated, to be top water, and have a long casting distance (since I am casting it from a dock) Do you guys have any suggestions? -thank you Matthew Miller
which top water lure works best? what time? what season? what temp? i can either be fishing for largemouth? bass or smallmouth bass, what im thinking about is a buzzbait, walk-the-dog lure, a popper, a skitter pop. what size and color works best for these lures?

Good fishing lures and techniques for a weedy pond? I was recently fishing a very scummy and weedy MONSTER bass and MONSTER pike pond off a main river, but question is how do I get them to bite. I've tried scum frogs, gulp worm, jitterbugs, poppers, zara spooks, stanley ribbit frogs, yum money hounds, and nothing will bite anything, and its hard to fish it with cranks, buzzbaits even spinnerbaits because of the scum on top of the water and the weeds 6 inches from the surface, fishing them slow, meduim, or fast, nothing, and their in there because I can see them jump and feeding on topwater, please give me some tips.
What is ur all time favorite thing to do? I would have to say i ABSOLUTELY love to catch a big mouth bass on a top water lure...lmao..gotta be into fishing to understand that

So please give me a top water lure to use that is guaranteed to catch a bass. I am fishing in a pond that has a lot of moss and a lot of cattails. I usually catch the big ones on the edge of the moss patches. I also use a spinning reel but i have a bait caster and i know how to use it. but i would prefer to use my favorite pole. But please help me out. Thanks!!!
Isn't it amazing how much in common Fox News has with a bass fishing lure, say one of those pretty crankbaits? I mean they both mix something good and attractive with a HOOK. Fox News IS spot on about so many of it's social views and are starting to wake up about financial responsibility. BUT.....like a shiny pretty crank bait used by a fisherman, there's a hook. And the hook that Fox News wants you to swallow is acceptance of its insane foreign policy agenda of perpetual war for perpetual peace espoused by the neocons who bamboozled Bush 43 and so many others at the top to go about the world seeking monsters to destroy, remember the Bush Doctrine? I can watch Fox News and seperate the good they have to offer and IMMEDIATELY reject their foreign policy propaganda which, if embraced any further will DESTROY our great nation. Why can't so many others do this? Is it the flag waving, the country music they play, the fear mongering, the message they send that if you're not against the 'terrorists' you're for them. BTW...why don't they acknowledge that almost all nations engage in some sort of terrorism. Isn't that the killing of innocents for political gain, or some other type of gain? Deliberately killing innocents is terrorism in my book, whatever end you are trying to justify it is WRONG.
