Fishing techniques and bait? im planning on going fishing on Lake O'Dowd in shakopee minnesota this sunday and i need to know what kind of bait and "spray on scents" and fake baits are good at this time of year (early april) and what kind of technique i should use to catch fish off a peer/dock. there is sunny's, crapies/panfish, bass, maybe some northerns and a few walleyes. and im using a spinning reel. im getting kinda tired of last summer when all i caught was little sunnys. im open to anything. what should i do/use?
What bass fishing technique works best for you in small pond (no boat)? I've been fishing at this lake every other day for awhile. Matter fact alot of my friends fishs it two just as much. So far i've only seen/heard of maybe 5 keeper size bass being caught and a few small ones. Two big fish was snagged so that doesn't count. Thing is there are many people and different techniques being tried and it's rare a fish is caught. I dont see how the can turn down rapalas because is so easy to fish but I never get hits on them. I had a couple on worms and lizards but maybe I'm not presenting them right. I dont have a dept finder but walking on the docks and dropping my line down in many parts I've found that this pond is only 6" deep (so it seems) I think is best to try fish close to the top with spinners and rapalas most of the time but it's not working too good. The weather changes patterns alot too but I'm out in all of it. Trying differant techniques. These bass are smart or just not biting in anything. I can thow a bait on a bed, step back and still nothing.
What are the best techniques for bass fishing? I dont have a boat or anything along those lines. So i am stuck to fishing off the shore. From what ive read they like to stay down in the mossy areas of lakes. what lures/ bait should i use. what would be the easiest and the best bet? Also lately ive been getting caught on all the crap in the lake like sea weed and stuff and my line always breaks. How DO I AVOID THIS!!!!!! having to re make my line is very annoying. also i have not been fishing very long so any extra detail you would like to add in or any extra tips you would like to add in that dont really have to do with my question i will be completely okay with that. THANK YOU SO MUCH
fishing for bass lake techniques? i have the bait (spinner bait),and i have the rod and string. Now what techniques am i supposed to do to catch this bass? Just sit around and wait for it to be caught?

I can "flip" and cast great but my retieval methods i think need some work, so any help and tips are appreciated. the ponds i fish no one else does so i figure i have some advantage but i do not know the hieght to fish some lures. top, mid, bottom do i let it drop and retrieve fast or do a 3 count and bring it home slow........thanks for any and all answers/tips in advance.
What should i use for bass fishing? I have always fished for catfish, and recently fished for bass for the first time. I thought it was really fun, but i need some help. Since i'm not very educated on techniques or gear, any suggestions will be helpful. I need a lot of help for what lures and bait to buy. PLEASE INCLUDE PICTURES OR THE URL TO WEBSITES WITH LURES AND STUFF. thank you
sliping float fishing for steel heads or bass? when we are using crank bait to catch bass, we use techniques like snatch snatch and reel it in ... etc could i use it the same way with float rig?
Fishing for Striped Bass? I live about three minuted from the Colorado River just outside of Laughlin Nevada. There is not much to do out here so I have decided to take up fishing. I have done my research and have purchased my license but still need help with more information, possibly from people with more then average fishing experience. I know from where I'm fishing there wont be as many fish as there would be further up since the fish coming down towards me are going through one of two different Dams. As of now for this area stripped bass are the fish in abundance. I'd rather fish a lake such as Lake Mohave but that is over two hours away and why go that far from home when there's a river right outside? So here are my questions. 1. What is the best bait for stripped bass? (Live and Dead) 2. What is the more appropriate sized hook for stripped bass? I don't see myself getting some monster being that I'm fishing in the river and not the ocean. 3. Any good techniques for fishing this kind of fish (especially being in a river enviroment)? How to hook the bait? ect. 4. How should I set my pole up? Weight? Bobber? ect. 5. Any other info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Fishing suggestion - fishing for bass and bream in clear water? I am going to be fishing in a national park area in a river with clear water containing bass and bream. I have read that clear water makes fishing more difficult. Does anyone have any suggestions on the type of bait/lures to use? Any technique suggestions would be helpful too. Thank you
fishing....tips? Okay so I go fishing alot and I never catch anything unless luck comes my way.... Sometimes I fish for bass, some times I fish for crappy or bluegill. Just catching something good in size without needing expensive lures and equipment is fun. I usually keep getting snagged on the bottom of the creek. The creek I fish as is full of bass, crappy, and bluegill...but rarely do I pull anything out or get any bites. Sometimes I would catch a few good 10 -14 inch bass. But that's rarely....I want to bring home the big ones! Any tips on bait and fishing techniques to not get snagged at the bottom of rocks and such? Any tips to using certain types of lures and baits? I try not to use expensive lures because of the snagging. I use 15lb test line and a good size hook, not sure the size but it's a good size to pull in big bass..if I would ever get a chance to hook a big one. Sometimes I would use smaller size hooks and different bait for crappy..no luck with either fish types really.. for bluegills I would use wax worms, and regular night crawler worms. For bass I would use 10 inch long powerbait lures...I've used light and dark colored ones. I've tried a few spinners. I've tried using different types of rubber jiggs. Maybe my sinker and hook set up is wrong?...could that be the cause for snagging and not getting any fish? Could setting the sinkers wrong be a factor? Sometimes I stand on the docks, some times I stand in the bushes area where the land leads out to the deep end of the creek. Sometimes there's shadows, sometimes there's not.
LAKE HOPATCONG NJ BASS FISHING TIPS?? Just starting tournaments in NJ and was wondering if anyone has tips of baits and techniques for lake hopatcong bass. Thanks:)
I just recently got into fishing big swim baits for bass. But I have a small problem.? Ok, it's a huge problem. Casting distance. How in the HELL do some of these guys that I see cast their lures so far? I've practiced and practiced, and on a good day, these guys are throwing them 120, 130, 150ft! On a good day, I can barely make it at 70ft! My girlfriend got me into it. She was watching something on either History Channel or National Geographic about big bass and swim baits. She said I would probably catch more and bigger fish. So she bought me a rod and reel that she thought could handle the heavy weights of some of these lures: Shimano Calcutta 400B reel and G. Loomis Big Bait GL2-966 8' Mag-Hvy rod rated for 3-10oz lures and 25-45lb mono. I love her. Anyway... she also bought almost a housand dollars worth of baits for me also: a couple Castaic Rock Hards, Castaic Platinums, different sizes of Huddlestons, A couple Mattlures Hards and Baby Bass Series, three different SPRO BBZ-1s, Stocker Trouts and two different colors of Tru-Tungsten Tru-Life Trouts. For Christmas, she's trying to find the 5 different Jerry Rago trouts... Anyway, I feel like I'm bragging. My question is: How can I get the distance some of these guys are getting? Like I said, at most I can get is about 70ft... these guys are easily doubling that. I have the brake backed off almost all the way, I'm using 30lb Sufix mono on my reel... I'm letting the lure hang down from the tip between 3-4ft. I watch these guys close. I've tried side-hand casting, overhand, everything they do, but I still can't figure what I'm doing wrong. Some of these guys are really secretive about their techniques and pretty reclusive, they don't like sharing ANY info or helping anybody. So I'm hoping there's people here that fish these big baits that can help me. Thanks in advance. Nathan: Yeah, fishing in California. Castaic mostly, sometimes Casitas. slept on & terby: I don't do the Rapala thing. Rusty Nail: Just like Grand Master Basser said, 10 or 12lb line can't handle these big baits. The weight of any of them would pop the line and snap the tip of a light rod. In a heartbeat. Jan: What's the other direction your're talking about? I don't quite understand what you meant. The Wormist: Lol! PINK Ande mono? What kind of muskie rod are you using? Does Loomis not offer a lifetime warranty on their rods? I wasn't aware that Shimano even made a heavy swimbait rod, let alone offered a lifetime warranty. Wouldn't 50lb braid be a little heavy, not that 30lb mono isn't much lighter? dhughes214: Medium-heavy rods aren't made for casting big, heavy lures. the catfisher: True, but practice is still not enough. Alex: You mean deadsticking it? JaimeTheBartender: Yeah, I know how you feel. I went To Castaic yesterday and I'm still feeling it in my lower back and shoulders. And yes, the subject of marriage has come up. She's an only child, sorry. Explains why she's spoiled and has money all the time. I'm having a hell of a time trying to choose a Best Answer. I can't pick between Nathan S, The Wormist, and Grand Master Basser, its a tie with those three! Is there anyway I can give all three of you the credit?
What is the best pike fishing technique? I'm going Pike fishing in the dead stream between Houghton lake, MI and 127. It has murkey waters, with channels about 6-8 ft deep x 20 ft across, running through a flood plain thats almost always has about 2 ft of water in it. What is the best lure or live bait to use? What part of the channel should I fish in? Any tips or tricks? Ive only reeled one pike out of here before, and I took it with a pike minnow. I mostly just wind up with bass or dog fish on my line. I forgot to ask this, should I use a steel leader, Ive had a few pike chomp right through 15lb line.
What techniques should I use? I am a bass fisherman from Massachusetts, and it is tough to find information about bass fishing in the northeast during the fall. My favorite body of water to fish, the Quabbin Reservoir, is going to close for the season soon, and I wanted to go out one more time. Last time I went out I had no success using my usual finesse worm and crank bait techniques. What should I be using at this point of the year, and I know to go deeper, but how deep should I fish? Thanks

How do you catch suspended bass? I have a tournament next week. The fishing will probably be alot like last year. Water temp was 78- 83. Like last year the area is in a drout so no water will be pulled. The fish that was found was not active and they appeared to be suspended (on the fish finder) between 3 to 9 feet of water in deep pockets (15 feet of more). What technique and artificle bait can I use to catch these fish? The lake is located in central Alabama and is fed by the Coosa river.
What baits to use for Bass in Heavy Cover? Situation: I am helping a beginner bass fisherman try to catch fish from heavy milfoil (grows all the way to the surface.) What is the best and easiest snagless presentation? I was thinking about spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, weedless spoons, jitterbugs etc. Please give me your top 3 techniques. I am going to hold off on suggesting flipping or pitching jigs or lizards as my freind does not have the setup or experience to fish plastics this way.
Shh, don't tell my hubby...(fishing question)? We have a couple different bodies of water near our house. Two major rivers and a small lake with an average depth of 12 feet. The lake is a trophy muskie lake. Everytime we go fishing my kids and I stay near shore catching blue gill, crappie, and an occasional bass. I would like to impress (actually outfish him one of these days) by catching a nice wall-eye or muskie. I have no idea what to use or how to do it...he is quite secretive with his big fish techniques! So...my question is "What pound line should i be useing, what kind of bait, where should i look, and do i have to have a steal leader for the muskies? (cuz i have no clue how to use those!)

Some questions on some fishing stuff.. Again.. Please help? So I've been asking a lot of questions about many of the same things, just gonna pile together a bunch. Please help me with as many as you can. 1. The Zebco Bite Alert spinning combo, I know the technology on the bite alert is cheap, but how does the pole and reel itself handle? 2. The Ugly Stik spinning combo, I know the rod is AMAZING! but i've heard the reel on the combo isn't very good, any truth behind this? 3. What techniques/ lures or bait are good for small and large mouth bass, carp, catfish, and lake trout? 4. Is Berkley triline big game 10-12lb line a good multi purpose fishing line for those fish? Combined with a good rod and reel combo that is. 5. Has anyone used a Browning Fishing Stalker spinning combo? They look ok but how does it handle? Please answer as many of these as you can, it'll be greatly appreciated THANKS AK.. I'm 15 yeah I'm on a low budget. Sorry i have school to go to i can't center my life around fishing. Was just asking for some help on rods and things because I'm new to fishing. Relax... And thanks to the rest who actually answered i appreciate it. Um,, no I'm not new to it just don't have the best equipment and am on a low budget thanks though. I use Rapala Firetiger Dives-to crankbaits and Huskey jerks with Suffix 10lb line. Just a horrible pole and reel.
Switching from Bass to Walleye? I'm going to switch this year from primarily fishing bass to walleye. I've fished bass my whole life along with mostly crappie, northern, and musky. I've fished walleye every so often but I'm not a jigger (I want to get really good at this). What kinda equipment and baits do you walleye lovers go with every year and can't get enough of? Any techniques you want to share? I'm looking at May to start on my venture. These are great ideas. I'm a WI man and I'm going to Northern MN for a week as well. Around N. WI there are no shortage of lakes and rivers to wet my line for walleye, so you've all given me a great starting point to practice from and learn more. Thanx!!!
Trout Fishing Tip? I've grown up fishing for bass... its how my father always fished. Recently started trout fishing with some friends and have really gotten in to it. Anyway have any tips on trout fishing. What I"m looing for is like when to use a dry fly vs. a wet fly.. and is there a proper technique to work the lure or just let the river do it for you? Or what other type of lures/bait is popular and useful. And I'm fishing the streams and rivers of Western North Carolina.

I have absolutely no idea how to fish in the ocean and i have no idea what to bring. (the only fishing i have done is in the neighborhood lake catching bass.) what i need to know is what line to buy, what lures and bait to use and buy (and the fish that it will catch), what kind of weights to buy, what kind of net to buy (prices and where to buy this stuff if possible (Indiana)), and maybe some tips and techniques if you have any. I am planning to just fish right on the beach, no boat. i already have a "Masters" pole that is very thick that i think would work, i have been told that i can use regular freshwater hooks (if not please tell me), and i have a fishing knife. Where is a good place to fish in Toronto next weekend? I want to go fishing over the weekend around Toronto. Does anyone know a place to go? I'd prefer a place with parking. Thanks.
I need some help with selecting Flies for Fly Fishing? Hello i am fishing in Minnesota and i am mostly a bait fisherman but please dont hold that against me. Anyways i had a neighbor who had shown me how to fly fish one time in a friendly neighbor competition who could catch a bigger fish. After our competition i wanted to learn more about fly fishing so i read some about the casting technique but what i should have read about is the lures themselves. Unfortunately though in a little under 2 weeks my neighbor had passed on. And i kind of lost interest in it for awhile since he was the one who got me into it and then he was gone. Well recently i was looking through the garage and i saw one of his old pole and reel that he had let me borrow and his wife said i could keep after he passed. So i am wanting to continue what i started and i want to try some fly fishing next time i go down by the stream or lake. Now the problem is i have no Flies. And i was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction as to what kind of flies i should use up here in Minnesota say on a pond for bass and also Sunnies. Because we have a pretty good Bass Lake here. Also i realize the type of fly depends on whats native here but im more hoping someone can help me rule out some types that would never be used this far north. Thanks!
What Has Been Your Best Method For Catching Carp? I need some help from all my fellow anglers out there about catching Carp.As some of you know & have seen the pics of my other catches of Bass & Bluegill in the pond I fish in,I have yet to snag one of the huge Carp there.I've been trying just about all I know & still none caught to post.I've almost been tempted to jump in & wrestle one in! lol But that just wouldn't be fishing. So,my question is, what baits or lure have you used that were successful? Any other technique that proved useful? We're going tomorrow & any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance & happy fishing all!
Heading out fishing tomorrow morning...so help please!? Im heading out to a relatively small pond tomorrow when I wake up and i need some advice on what i should use for bait. I have no live bait so basically If someone could tell me what i should use as as far as artificial stuff goes. I go to this little pond A lot and the water is always crystal clear and is not very deep. I see pretty decent sized bass swimming in there all the time. Is there anything in particular i should use to catch them? certain technique? lure? and rig I should use? Im 16 and ive been fishing since i remember just in case anybody is wondering. I usually know what im doing...but its a new spot for me. So I would really appreciate some help. Thanks! I have almost every type of artificial baits out there...haha. So im not worried about not having the right kind.
Can I fly fish in a lake? I live right by a lake, I like to walk down to it and fish with just a regular pole and bait. But i love to fly fish it's my most favorite thing to do. I heard someone talking about fly fishing on the lake and catching loads of bass.I'm now wondering what kinda of flies you would use or a different technique. If you could help me out it would be great. Thanks!
how to use a spinnerbait i have lots of spinner baits and i went to lake george and the bass fishing was insane. but now im back in CT and the spinnerbaits have not had the same production. it might have something to do wiht my technique. i was also wondering if the water needs to be a certain depth, and if it needs to be on the bottom or top. and if you could tell me when to use them, such as night or day, ponds or lakes, rain, shine etc. i am fishing in a type of resavour type water if this helps.
Any tips for catching catfish? How can I catch catfish? I did not do well last year. I sneak away to go fishing often and catch crappie and large mouth bass very well but would like to catch more cat. I tried all the stuff I read online last year with no success - fishing off shore. I don't have a boat. I have several large & nice lakes near me in north Texas but not any good rivers. The Trinity River is supposed to be polluted. Can anyone help with advice? What is the best way to catch cat ? What is the best time - day or night? Baits? Techniques? Anything else? Thanks for your help! .
What is the best way to catch? Striped bass? I usually go with sardines, anchovies, or worms. i can inflate the worms to make them float, and usually get more hits that way, but not with stripers. Is there any different bait or any type of technique that I should employ? Closer to the bank, closer to the middle? I am fishing the American, Sacramento and Feather Rivers. Thanks
FISH TIPS NEEDED! calling all fisherman!? ***PLEASE read it all if you think you can help*** I've been to my local reservoir 7 strait 2-hour trips on my canoe and 2 times off the shore and have never caught a fish. not a single one. barely any bites. The local fisherman tell me to use night crawlers and i do. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG. > Experienced fisherman tell me my pole and line will work fine to i don't know if that has anything to do with my bad results. > I usually will pick a spot to fish, I'll stay there for about 25 mins to an hour, and i just throw my line were i see the most splashes. Please tell me the following: > What do you use as bait? > What time of day do the fish eat? > Any other techniques that get you results? ****i fish catch and release so i don't care what i catch, this reservoir is loaded with bass and catfish.
How can I become a better fisherman? As of late I have become very interested in fishing. Something about it is just calling me. Like i could picture myself out all day fishing. The problem is I know nothing about it. I have only caught a few fish in my life time. I can do a decent cast. I wanna be an expert. I live in Tennessee, that is where i will be doing my fishing. mostly on ft. loudon lake or the tennessee river or watts bar. what are the best baits to use, live worms? what are good techniques? best locations? finiding secret spots? DO i need a bass boat? Any tips or tricks or advice
Why didn't I catch fish with Texas RIG? The worm is rigged correctly with more than tip protruding from worm. Had 2 hard bites yesterday and saw fish running with the line across water. I game him 5 seconds to run with it and then jerked back hard only to have my bait fly out of its mouth. I jerked hard! Is their some technique I'm missing? My dad says to use the largest bass hooks possible. The ones I use are medium sized hooks. ANY tips? Both times I could feel that they were definitely bass. Should I run hook through worm more so that its coming out regardless of getting hung up on bottom or snagging weeds.
Largemouth Bass Techniques and Baits for Stained Lake? I have a house on Lake Panorama in Iowa that I stay at for two months every summer. I fish a lot for bluegill, channel cats and walleye. I have been recently turned on to bass fishing, and have heard stories of many bass fisherman on my small lake. I went out to Bass Pro Shops in Des Moines and got a bargain Baitcaster that I have already mastered. I have fished a total of 14 hours in the last three days and have only had two hits from bass, both of which missed. I have tried every time of day and a plethora of baits including plastic worms, jitterbugs, zara spooks and poppers and used techniques like walking the dog. My lake is murky and you can only see about 6-8 inches into the water. It is also very cleaned up leaving little structure and weed beds but there's a lot of rock. I am wondering which techniques and baits anyone would recommend that I could try because I haven't had any luck in the large amounts of time that I have spent fishing.
i am a junior angler and im looking for some advice on any of the fish listed below or even more if u know any? i am intrested in catching almost any freshwater fish. the area in wich i live in is illinois. there is catfish, large mouth bass, small mouth bass, wallie, pike, and carp if any one has any special techniques or baits i would appreciate the info. i like to use fake bait but for carp catfish and pike live bait is good to.
I need tips on fishing bass? I'm a total fishing noob but I do enjoy fishing. There's a small lake near my home and I go to it every once and a while. The problem is I hardly ever catch anything! In the last like 6 trips that I've gone, I've caught maybe 6 fish but they were all little hybrid striped bass. the biggest one was about 14 inches. What am I doing wrong? What I do first is throw my net out and catch shad to use as bait. Next, I use my open face pole and cast it as far as I can cast it. Another problem with this is that it only goes about 50 feet maximum from where I cast and I cast from the shore so that's a big problem. I'm physically fit so I think it's a technique problem. If you have any tips, I'd like to have them.

Large mouth Bass and Striped Bass help? Ok so my dad's friend owns this huge pond, and he stocks all kinds of fish in it. 12in. blue gill to 36in. catfish. But he also has bass and striped bass in it. Now I haven't caught any bass yet. I've had a couple of bass on, but had bad luck reeling them in. And those stripe bass will come up to his dock but not bite on anything! Anybody have any techniques or advice on which kind of baits I should use? Thanks for the help :)

any fishing experts here?? HOW DO I FISH? well, i live in florida, i am used to fishing in retention ponds, canals, and similar waters. my friends all say i'm a great fisher because once i put my hook in the water (without bait!) on accident and caught a little sunfish within at least 3 seconds. then i laughed it off, and baited my hook and casted it into the water and waited about 10 seconds, and reeled in a 4lb bass. that being said, i have no skill or technique just luck. everytime i go fishing i usually catch around 10-15 sunfish, but nothing big, nothing edible. i have recently been fishing in brackish waters, and cant catch a thing. what do i use as bait, what can i expect to catch, what techniques should i use, what times are good to go fishing. please answer all of those if you can, again that is for brackish water, meaning salt/fresh mix. also can you answer the same for freshwater fishing?? (what to use as bait, techniques, times, etc.) i really really (REALLY) want to catch a big bass that i can mount on my wall, but i havent got the slightest clue how to do it. thanks to all (useful) answers in advance!! who said anything about stabbing?? technically you are 'hooking' (hence the word fishing HOOK) the only time you stab anything is when you are about to cook it, which then gives you a reason to stab in the first place. that was my polite way of saying STFU & GTFO
How can I catch bigger largemouth bass? I fish a lot in a bass pond, and normally catch about 10-12 inch largemouth bass. My friend, who fishes in the pond says theres 4ft pike in the pond, and she has pictures of her catching really big bass. She also is curious why im not catching these bigger fish...im using the bait she recommends, which is fake black worms and leeches. I also use spinner baits, and other jigs. Any suggestions on new baits, techniques or areas to fish??? Thanks!!
Best bait to use at Kaweah Lake (CA) from the shore? Hey, Ive been fishing for years and catch something just about every time i go fishing at Kaweah Lake, California. I usually fish off boats, but lately ive been wanting to try something a bit more diffcult and switched to shore fishing. Ive gone about 20-30 times since March and havent caught a single thing! I get a few bites, but none actually reeled in. I use/used live worms, nightcrawlers, blood shad, blood power bait, catfish bites bait, shrimp (cooked and raw), and a few rooster tails. Ive also used lures like rattle shad and find it difficult since its mostly grass and weeds in the water. Anyone have any clue what i can try using? Lake info: Dark green water color, grassy and lots of weeds and sticks in most areas, rocky areas as well (i prefer here) Fish info: Theres Bass, Large Mouth Bass, Salmon, Trout, Rainbow Trout, and Catfish NOTE:: Since i dont have the proper Equipment, i only fish for Bass, Trout, and Catfish. Reel, Rod, and Line info: Rod - Shakespeare Firebird 700 Big Water Combo 10-20 pound specs. Reel - Browning Gold Medallion . Line - Spyderwire Stealth Braid ( Matches the water color perfectly) Techniques used/able to use: Ive mostly use drop shot or just a normal line

Fishing on the Portugal coast? I am going on holiday to Portugal for 10 days and with not much else to do I expect to spend a good part of this fishing, I'll be taking a couple of rods and my local tackle shop has suggested probably spinning for bass, I was wondering if anyone has any advice on techniques or baits etc? if you search "Praia do Bom Sucesso, 2510 Óbidos, Leiria, Portugal" in google maps that will show you where I will be. Thanks in advance! : D
What is the best bait and techniques for catching bass? I'm going fishing with the family tomorrow on a day trip and was just wondering what types of bait I should use and what I should do to better my chances for getting a few bites. We'll be traveling in a few different blow up kayacks in a river like setting. Just a few tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
How can i catch a trophy fish? I live in an area with a lot of streams, ponds, and the potomac river. I'm from Washington County, Maryland. I've fished a lot in the Conococheague creek, and the "hot wall" in Williamsport. I also own land along the Potomac in Falling Waters, WV. I prefer fishing in creeks because I feel that I catch a significantly greater number of fish in less time than fishing in the river. I catch a ton of striped bass and largemouth bass. I've noticed that the fish are much more responsive to a crawfish lure. The biggest fish I catch are typically 8-11". I want to start fishing in the river, but am unsure of what to do to increase my chances of catching a fish. (sometimes I can fish for hours without even a nibble) I would ideally like to catch a decent sized cat or carp. I'd really like to catch anything of decent size. I've used chicken liver soaked in garlic salt but have had absolutely no luck. Please leave any of the following: Places to fish. Lures/bait to use. Types of fish to fish for. Techniques for fishing. When to fish. Thank you very much!
Bass Fishing With Closed Faced Reel? Long story short I had to go get a new baitcaster the other day. I used my boys closed face reel for the day, and i'm convinced now he's not as bad of a fisherman as I thought. I lost 4 bites on a buzz bait, I couldn't set the hook for nothin'. Come to think of it I think he's only ever caught one fish with that reel and i've never caught one at all. Is there some kind of technique unique to closed face reels that i'm not aware of? It reels in so sloooooowwwwww I think that might be the problem since I can't reel set if my life depended on it. and do you think a 1/4oz bait is too heavy for that reel, and I need to respool it but i've only got 12lb trilene, i don't know if it's not recommended or not compatible for what
How can I catch bigger fish? Last season I really didn't catch anything big at all, just little things. I am going to be getting a spinning reel and I already have some artificial bait, and crank baits' so what do I need to do to catch larger catfish, bass, etc? I fish on the hennepin canal and lakes at state parks. Have tips on where to fish like near the shore, or techniques? Thanks.
