Good Bass Fishing techniques and Lures? Im a newbie wanting to start bass fishing and live in SW Michigab any advice as far as technique and lures?
Bass fishing techniques for spring weather changes in Dallas (rain, cold, sun, wind)? Okay, this is for you expert anglers. I fish small local ponds in the Lewisville, Carrollton, Frisco area. The bass were really biting in March, but with all of the cold fronts that have moved through every few days in April, I've really had inconsistent luck. I've generally heard that fishing is better right before a front moves in and that seems to have been right. My issue is that after a big rain or when the air temp drops from the 70-80s to 50-60 for a few days. I am not sure what to do. Can someone help explain the patterns of bass when the air cools down suddenly, when storms/rain comes, when it's really windy (20-30 mph), when it's overcast vs cloudy, and how I should be fishing (lures, techniques, etc) in those conditions in north Texas?
What are the best bass fishing equipment and techniques for a beginner? I fish once in a while, but have never fished bass. What equipment, and should I use a boat, what lure, technique, etc. should I use?

What are the best techniques for bass fishing? I dont have a boat or anything along those lines. So i am stuck to fishing off the shore. From what ive read they like to stay down in the mossy areas of lakes. what lures/ bait should i use. what would be the easiest and the best bet? Also lately ive been getting caught on all the crap in the lake like sea weed and stuff and my line always breaks. How DO I AVOID THIS!!!!!! having to re make my line is very annoying. also i have not been fishing very long so any extra detail you would like to add in or any extra tips you would like to add in that dont really have to do with my question i will be completely okay with that. THANK YOU SO MUCH

fall bass fishing newbie needs some tips? Never fished before in the fall. always just quit around mid august. but this year gonna try it out. What are some good techniques and lures? depths of water? ect.
how different is small mouth bass from large mouth bass fishing? well i am a large mouth bass fisherman and know alot about it basikly i think of myself as a semi pro but since i no longer live near the lakes i always fished and live near many local lakes with one public access and one spot to fish from shore (im a shore fisherman, i own no boats) the rest of the lake access are from houses along the entire lake so i asked a techer about spots to fish and he pointed me towards the river near our area for small mouth. most of my lures are for large mouths like 5-8 inch senkos 4 inch hard swimbaits and medium to large crankbaits like rapalas and medium sized ratl-traps bass spinnerbaits and buzzbaits and inline spinners, are these still good for small mouths? there are a few largemouths in the river but not enough that i can target them only. so are the lures i have still work? im basikly asking what diference can i expect with lures and technique of fishing shuld i expect besides the fish and the fight they give. ARTIE ur a pissed off guy who looks for people to yell at. im not an idiot i know all about how weather and water clearity and all those crap and how it effects fishing i learned it all from research and youtube in just a year and that was wen i hadnt fished for years and i was only 14 and wen i could finaly drive myself to go fish and targetting only largemouth i was very succcessful because of how much time i spent learning about LARGEMOUTH BASS but small mouth are different and i strayed away from them because were i fish the only way to get smallies was from boat to get to the deep areas of the lake and other than that here in MN not EVERYSINGLE lake has smallies you need to find lakes with a decent smallie population to actually target them. you just hate other fishermen that may show more skill than you. i know i was being somewhat cocky but who dosnt get cocky when it comes to fishing semi pro was to show i am not a beginner but not pro just that i kno wat im doing

need help with ice fishing techniques!? im new to ice fishing and have fished on about 2 ponds. and i have had absolutely no luck! i have not had one bite in about two days. and im fishing on a fairly small pond so its not like they can be to far. ive fished the sides, middle, just about everywhere i can think of. the water is only about 8 feet in the deepest parts. and even with an aqua vu fish camera i still have not even seen a fish approach my lure, or a fish period. and i know there are tons of fish in there because i fish there all summer. what could i be doing wrong!?! i have a small ice fishing pole, and i dont want to use tip ups because i find that extremely boring i want a pole in my hand. i have bunch of jigs, and tons of other ice fishing lures. the line is not visible to fish, and i am using berkley maggots. what am i doing wrong!?! what areas should i be targeting? fallen trees? or the deepest parts of the pond? the fish that are in the pond include bass, catfish, panfish, and odly enough a few coi. so what can i do!?!? i am realy desperate because i dont want to have cabin fever like i normaly do every year.
Fishing suggestion - fishing for bass and bream in clear water? I am going to be fishing in a national park area in a river with clear water containing bass and bream. Smallmouth Bass Fishing Questions? Hi I live in Door County, Wisconsin. One of the top fish here is the smallmouth bass. Last year I fished for it a lot. I fish off of docks that are very rocky around it. There are a couple large rock formations which I can see bass swimming in. The other day no lure was working so I tried a wacky worm. This worked great and I caught 4 nice sized smallmouth. I am very interested in this fishing technique now. I am wonder what size hook I should use and what color wacky worm. Also if you know what size my rod should be that would be great. Thank you.

What is the best pike fishing technique? I'm going Pike fishing in the dead stream between Houghton lake, MI and 127. It has murkey waters, with channels about 6-8 ft deep x 20 ft across, running through a flood plain thats almost always has about 2 ft of water in it. What is the best lure or live bait to use? What part of the channel should I fish in? Any tips or tricks? Ive only reeled one pike out of here before, and I took it with a pike minnow. I mostly just wind up with bass or dog fish on my line. I forgot to ask this, should I use a steel leader, Ive had a few pike chomp right through 15lb line.
How can I catch a bass? I have been out bass fishing many times and just cant seem to catch one fish. Am i using the wrong lure, am i in the right location, (technique) Do you know anywhere good to fish in massachusetts? I am open to any and every opinion :)
fishing with artifical craw fish? i have never fished with artificial crawfish. i have used live ones though. i have watched tv shows that showed the fisherman was tearing up the bass with craw fish lures and i was in bass pro shop and they demonstrated the lure and the bass wouldn't even leave it alone. my question is what do yall think is the best way to fish the crawfish lure. oh yea..i picked up a bass pro shop weedless football jig to go with it. that is what the guy at bass pro was using a few week ago so i picked it up. if any of yall have any tips or techniques that would help me out. i am going to a river that is supposed to have a lot of lilly pads and grass cover if that changes the techniques any. thanks and good fishin
Trick to using lures? I used to fish with my dad as a kid and I clearly remember using lures and cathing plenty of trout and bass with them. Then life got in the way and 10 years passed without any fishing. Now I'm getting into it again and I realize I have forgotten most of the basic techniques for using lures so I resign to nightcrawlers. How do I use lures? What is the proper techniques for reeling in a lure? Best bass lures? Can someone give me a crash course?
fishing....tips? Okay so I go fishing alot and I never catch anything unless luck comes my way.... Sometimes I fish for bass, some times I fish for crappy or bluegill. Just catching something good in size without needing expensive lures and equipment is fun. I usually keep getting snagged on the bottom of the creek. The creek I fish as is full of bass, crappy, and bluegill...but rarely do I pull anything out or get any bites. Sometimes I would catch a few good 10 -14 inch bass. But that's rarely....I want to bring home the big ones! Any tips on bait and fishing techniques to not get snagged at the bottom of rocks and such? Any tips to using certain types of lures and baits? I try not to use expensive lures because of the snagging. I use 15lb test line and a good size hook, not sure the size but it's a good size to pull in big bass..if I would ever get a chance to hook a big one. Sometimes I would use smaller size hooks and different bait for crappy..no luck with either fish types really.. for bluegills I would use wax worms, and regular night crawler worms. For bass I would use 10 inch long powerbait lures...I've used light and dark colored ones. I've tried a few spinners. I've tried using different types of rubber jiggs. Maybe my sinker and hook set up is wrong?...could that be the cause for snagging and not getting any fish? Could setting the sinkers wrong be a factor? Sometimes I stand on the docks, some times I stand in the bushes area where the land leads out to the deep end of the creek. Sometimes there's shadows, sometimes there's not.
Going freshwater fishing for the first time, fishing for small mouth bass? I do lots of salt water so i'm very comfortable w/ fishing. I wanna know what a good lure for smalls is. I've heard rattle traps. BTW, I'm using a cast and retrieve technique. Thanx :)
Need a guide to fishing bass.? I need a: Technique to use Lure How far should i cast What should i look for Setting the hook how to rig everything up
How do I catch small mouth bass? I live on the James river, and i have never had success fishing in it, i know that there are small mouth bass in it but i dont know how to catch them. I not only want to know how to catch them, but what techniques should i use in semi fast moving river with rapids. (lures etc.) for other kinds of fish
I just recently got into fishing big swim baits for bass. But I have a small problem.? Ok, it's a huge problem. Casting distance. How in the HELL do some of these guys that I see cast their lures so far? I've practiced and practiced, and on a good day, these guys are throwing them 120, 130, 150ft! On a good day, I can barely make it at 70ft! My girlfriend got me into it. She was watching something on either History Channel or National Geographic about big bass and swim baits. She said I would probably catch more and bigger fish. So she bought me a rod and reel that she thought could handle the heavy weights of some of these lures: Shimano Calcutta 400B reel and G. Loomis Big Bait GL2-966 8' Mag-Hvy rod rated for 3-10oz lures and 25-45lb mono. I love her. Anyway... she also bought almost a housand dollars worth of baits for me also: a couple Castaic Rock Hards, Castaic Platinums, different sizes of Huddlestons, A couple Mattlures Hards and Baby Bass Series, three different SPRO BBZ-1s, Stocker Trouts and two different colors of Tru-Tungsten Tru-Life Trouts. For Christmas, she's trying to find the 5 different Jerry Rago trouts... Anyway, I feel like I'm bragging. My question is: How can I get the distance some of these guys are getting? Like I said, at most I can get is about 70ft... these guys are easily doubling that. I have the brake backed off almost all the way, I'm using 30lb Sufix mono on my reel... I'm letting the lure hang down from the tip between 3-4ft. I watch these guys close. I've tried side-hand casting, overhand, everything they do, but I still can't figure what I'm doing wrong. Some of these guys are really secretive about their techniques and pretty reclusive, they don't like sharing ANY info or helping anybody. So I'm hoping there's people here that fish these big baits that can help me. Thanks in advance. Nathan: Yeah, fishing in California. Castaic mostly, sometimes Casitas. slept on & terby: I don't do the Rapala thing. Rusty Nail: Just like Grand Master Basser said, 10 or 12lb line can't handle these big baits. The weight of any of them would pop the line and snap the tip of a light rod. In a heartbeat. Jan: What's the other direction your're talking about? I don't quite understand what you meant. The Wormist: Lol! PINK Ande mono? What kind of muskie rod are you using? Does Loomis not offer a lifetime warranty on their rods? I wasn't aware that Shimano even made a heavy swimbait rod, let alone offered a lifetime warranty. Wouldn't 50lb braid be a little heavy, not that 30lb mono isn't much lighter? dhughes214: Medium-heavy rods aren't made for casting big, heavy lures. the catfisher: True, but practice is still not enough. Alex: You mean deadsticking it? JaimeTheBartender: Yeah, I know how you feel. I went To Castaic yesterday and I'm still feeling it in my lower back and shoulders. And yes, the subject of marriage has come up. She's an only child, sorry. Explains why she's spoiled and has money all the time. I'm having a hell of a time trying to choose a Best Answer. I can't pick between Nathan S, The Wormist, and Grand Master Basser, its a tie with those three! Is there anyway I can give all three of you the credit?
lure technique and getting bigger bass? im always catching small bass,, usually less than 2 pounds,,is there something special to know about getting bigger ones when using lures? I usually have a plastic worm or crank bait and fish from bank.
Best fishing lake in Raleigh, NC? My dad and i are fairly new to fish and i was wondering what is the best fishing lake in Raleigh. we primarily fish for bluegill and bass. Please explain some of the best lures and techniques for that lake.
Some questions on some fishing stuff.. Again.. Please help? So I've been asking a lot of questions about many of the same things, just gonna pile together a bunch. Please help me with as many as you can. 1. The Zebco Bite Alert spinning combo, I know the technology on the bite alert is cheap, but how does the pole and reel itself handle? 2. The Ugly Stik spinning combo, I know the rod is AMAZING! but i've heard the reel on the combo isn't very good, any truth behind this? 3. What techniques/ lures or bait are good for small and large mouth bass, carp, catfish, and lake trout? 4. Is Berkley triline big game 10-12lb line a good multi purpose fishing line for those fish? Combined with a good rod and reel combo that is. 5. Has anyone used a Browning Fishing Stalker spinning combo? They look ok but how does it handle? Please answer as many of these as you can, it'll be greatly appreciated THANKS AK.. I'm 15 yeah I'm on a low budget. Sorry i have school to go to i can't center my life around fishing. Was just asking for some help on rods and things because I'm new to fishing. Relax... And thanks to the rest who actually answered i appreciate it. Um,, no I'm not new to it just don't have the best equipment and am on a low budget thanks though. I use Rapala Firetiger Dives-to crankbaits and Huskey jerks with Suffix 10lb line. Just a horrible pole and reel.
Why am I having bad luck Fishing in Grapevine Lake Texas? Recently I blew the dust off my fishing equipment and been going up to a local lake. I'm trying to fish for Large mouth bass, but cant seem to land any. I'm using all my lures and techniques that have worked in the past. Been doing Texas riged Red/black/green rubber worms, Spinners, poppers, Ratalas. I'm starting to think maybe its b/c the new fishing line i put on my rod, i went with some Stealth moss green Spider wire that's 30lb test. I heard a rumor that may be a cause of my bad luck. Not sure if its true but, the lighter the line the more chance you catch fish but also loose them. Any help/suggestion for my problem would be much appreciated. Thanks Yes the lake is a popular fishing spot
Trout Fishing Tip? I've grown up fishing for bass... its how my father always fished. Recently started trout fishing with some friends and have really gotten in to it. Anyway have any tips on trout fishing. What I"m looing for is like when to use a dry fly vs. a wet fly.. and is there a proper technique to work the lure or just let the river do it for you? Or what other type of lures/bait is popular and useful. And I'm fishing the streams and rivers of Western North Carolina.
How do you use a spinner bait, with an open face reel? I know there is a couple of techniques with these. But what is the best one for bass fishing on lakes?? Why do people think trapping is non-selective? Expierenced trappers are good at catching target animals only? As a trapper it irritates me to read this over and over on this forum. Why do people with no experience assume things and consider it fact. Besides all the reading I have done I have first hand experience. Lets start with Research studies such as Guthery and Beasoms Texas study in 1978. They reported neck snares were about 12 times more selective than foothold traps for capturing predatory mammals. Look it up. Now someone is bound to site some other study but how experienced were the trappers? I have found that I can avoid most all unwanted catches. It is a measure of success. If every morning when I walk my trap line I had a bunch of skunks and possums I wouldn't have much to sell at auction come March. Here is a copy and paste from The National Agricultural Safety Database Snaring is a useful technique to capture animals that cause economic loss, such as coyotes that kill livestock and beavers that cut trees or plug irrigation ditches. Snaring also is popular for harvesting surplus furbearers, one of our renewable natural resources. Snares are effective for capturing target animals, but may capture non-target animals such as deer and dogs if used improperly. Heavy on the "if used improperly". The point is when I am Bass fishing I catch bass not trout. Due to the fact I am at a bass pond using bass lures. Is it possible to accidently catch a trout....yes. However not likley. If I do I let it go if possible, if not guess I am eating trout tonight. In closing just because you don't think it is selective or you lack the ability to be selective does not make it so. When I read things like this it concerns me to think about all the advice people recieve on this forum and its merit. Are you irritated by the arm chair experts? Whats your 2 cents?
Heading out fishing tomorrow morning...so help please!? Im heading out to a relatively small pond tomorrow when I wake up and i need some advice on what i should use for bait. I have no live bait so basically If someone could tell me what i should use as as far as artificial stuff goes. I go to this little pond A lot and the water is always crystal clear and is not very deep. I see pretty decent sized bass swimming in there all the time. Is there anything in particular i should use to catch them? certain technique? lure? and rig I should use? Im 16 and ive been fishing since i remember just in case anybody is wondering. I usually know what im doing...but its a new spot for me. So I would really appreciate some help. Thanks! I have almost every type of artificial baits out there...haha. So im not worried about not having the right kind.
How to fish for Northern Pike at night? Does anyone have any good ideas or techniques for fishing for NORTHERN PIKE at night? I only have bites from bass and I actually had my first ever Northern Pike bite today. I was using a Mepps Straight spinner, but it ended up spitting out the lure at the pier. After about 6 both bass and northern both stop biting. I have also been trying the Terminator T-1 series bzzbait, but I have not had much luck with that. Maybe its the wrong season, but after dusk I get no bites. Anyone know: 1. Techniques for getting northern bites after dark 2. where Northern go after dark? Thanks much!
Finicky bass around lights at night? what do i do for ocean fishing in florida? i am going to Daytona Beach Shores in Florida for spring break, and i want to fish in the ocean for the first time. I have absolutely no idea how to fish in the ocean and i have no idea what to bring. (the only fishing i have done is in the neighborhood lake catching bass.) what i need to know is what line to buy, what lures and bait to use and buy (and the fish that it will catch), what kind of weights to buy, what kind of net to buy (prices and where to buy this stuff if possible (Indiana)), and maybe some tips and techniques if you have any. I am planning to just fish right on the beach, no boat. i already have a "Masters" pole that is very thick that i think would work, i have been told that i can use regular freshwater hooks (if not please tell me), and i have a fishing knife. PLEASE HELP ME IF YOU CAN! Thanks
I need some help with selecting Flies for Fly Fishing? Hello i am fishing in Minnesota and i am mostly a bait fisherman but please dont hold that against me. Anyways i had a neighbor who had shown me how to fly fish one time in a friendly neighbor competition who could catch a bigger fish. After our competition i wanted to learn more about fly fishing so i read some about the casting technique but what i should have read about is the lures themselves. Unfortunately though in a little under 2 weeks my neighbor had passed on. And i kind of lost interest in it for awhile since he was the one who got me into it and then he was gone. Well recently i was looking through the garage and i saw one of his old pole and reel that he had let me borrow and his wife said i could keep after he passed. So i am wanting to continue what i started and i want to try some fly fishing next time i go down by the stream or lake. Now the problem is i have no Flies. And i was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction as to what kind of flies i should use up here in Minnesota say on a pond for bass and also Sunnies. Because we have a pretty good Bass Lake here. Also i realize the type of fly depends on whats native here but im more hoping someone can help me rule out some types that would never be used this far north. Thanks!
What Has Been Your Best Method For Catching Carp? I need some help from all my fellow anglers out there about catching Carp.As some of you know & have seen the pics of my other catches of Bass & Bluegill in the pond I fish in,I have yet to snag one of the huge Carp there.I've been trying just about all I know & still none caught to post.I've almost been tempted to jump in & wrestle one in! lol But that just wouldn't be fishing. So,my question is, what baits or lure have you used that were successful? Any other technique that proved useful? We're going tomorrow & any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance & happy fishing all!

Pike fishing: What to use? I have to admit... I'm new to Pike fishing. Last time I went to the lake for bass I ended up catching a few 20-35 inch pike. I used a 3/8 ounce buzzbait at the time. Here are my questions: 1: What are the best lures to use when it's 90 degrees outside, shore fishing near points, rock piles, and trees growing out of the lake. 2: How necessary is a steel leader? and if it is necessary, what line strength should I use along with my 8lb mono? 3: Fishing techniques... How should I fish the lures you recommend? 4: I have a few lures I think will work well for Pike but I'd like your opinions. I have a DareDevle spoon. A lot of 1/8, 1/4, and 3/8 ounce buzzbaits. A couple 1/4 and 3/8 ounce Spinnerbaits, Some small minnows on a 1/16 ounce jig head. A Booyah Chatterbait that I think will work great. and various crankbaits and jigs and a lot of soft plastics. -- Answer as many questions as you want. The more you answer the more it will help me. Best answer to the most helpful answer. Thanks :)
How do you catch fish in Bass Pro Shop: The Strike? I passed the first part in Lake Amistad (by fishing next to the bridge) to get to the actual tournament, but I can't seem to catch anything in the first tournament. I must have the wrong lure or be fishing in the wrong spot, but nothing bites at all. Any tips on lure, technique, or location?
Good fishing lures and techniques for a weedy pond? I was recently fishing a very scummy and weedy MONSTER bass and MONSTER pike pond off a main river, but question is how do I get them to bite. I've tried scum frogs, gulp worm, jitterbugs, poppers, zara spooks, stanley ribbit frogs, yum money hounds, and nothing will bite anything, and its hard to fish it with cranks, buzzbaits even spinnerbaits because of the scum on top of the water and the weeds 6 inches from the surface, fishing them slow, meduim, or fast, nothing, and their in there because I can see them jump and feeding on topwater, please give me some tips.

Spawning Largemouth Bass? I live in the midwest and we've had a pretty good warm stretch. The water temps are nearing 60 degrees if they're not all ready there. Now I'm a pretty experienced fisherman but I usually do most of my fishing in the summer months. I'm not all to confident in my knowledge of spawning bass. Lately I've been observing the fish (bass) meandering about the shallow moss beds and It's obvious the spawn has begun. I'm just curious as to techniques used in catching these guys... What lure types trigger the best? Any tips about spawning bass will help. Thanks.
How can i catch a trophy fish? I live in an area with a lot of streams, ponds, and the potomac river. I'm from Washington County, Maryland. I've fished a lot in the Conococheague creek, and the "hot wall" in Williamsport. I also own land along the Potomac in Falling Waters, WV. I prefer fishing in creeks because I feel that I catch a significantly greater number of fish in less time than fishing in the river. I catch a ton of striped bass and largemouth bass. I've noticed that the fish are much more responsive to a crawfish lure. The biggest fish I catch are typically 8-11". I want to start fishing in the river, but am unsure of what to do to increase my chances of catching a fish. (sometimes I can fish for hours without even a nibble) I would ideally like to catch a decent sized cat or carp. I'd really like to catch anything of decent size. I've used chicken liver soaked in garlic salt but have had absolutely no luck. Please leave any of the following: Places to fish. Lures/bait to use. Types of fish to fish for. Techniques for fishing. When to fish. Thank you very much!
