Going surf fishing in Florida, Indian rocks beach, Going shark fishing alone advice? I will be going alone as of now i have there from feb 5th to the 12th and I plan on surf fishing everyday for little stuff and mainly sharks. Any advice on how to handle the sharks since I will be alone? Should I reel it in as far as I can and when i feel its fairly beached put pole down/in holder then pull him up by tail? I will be meeting up with couple guys for a day or two that shark fish his name is Tbone on here. But just wondering how dangerous/dumb it would be to try it alone or is it really not that big of deal? I am an experienced fisherman from here in WI I have fished big cats alone before so Im not just some random person trying to catch sharks i have caught bonnetheads every time i go! so again advice please! yes catch and release and glad to hear I can trust Tbone lol
Shark fishing in South Florida? So I'd like to do it right, and I've got some idea how, but I need some info on the rigging, times, and locations. I live near Fort Launderdale and am shore shark fishing. I take a small boat out and place my bait, then fish from the shore. I'd say I dropped it about 100 yards away. 1. Good location less than 45 minutes away? 2. In the morning or at night? 3. Good bait, also, how do I rig my line? Weight or no weight. I'm currently using 80lb test line. 4. High tide right? I know the water should be calm. Thanks for any help, experienced answers please.

SURF SHARK FISHING NEED EXPERIENCED FISHING HELP! THANKS? Ok all I hear is 200 lb this 300lb this and that.... So my first and main question. Do you really need that?! Or is it really about having proper drag letting him run and reeling when he lets you? I understand the leader being a very important part so that i can understand being some heavy duty but the line and everything? Can you get by say with...50-80 lb mono for the shock section of the rig? I just want to know more about this Shark stuff. And if all this high lb stuff is truly needed pics of your rig would be great too fishing in Florida gulf side! What lb leader with work and how long? Right now i have 174lb single stand leader but its so... stiff and I just dont believe I need that but if i really do i will go with it I also have a 100 flourocarbon leader for the shock suppression I think this may be more then enough let me hear your thoughts. PS I would like a different leader because twisting it around to keep it snug hurts the fingures! I dont have a crimp

How would you go about selling a stuffed, mounted bottle-nosed dolphin? I caught it while shark fishing off the Florida coast two years ago. Oh MAN, did it put up a fight! It made these really weird "EEE! EEE! EEE!" noises when I landed it with a gaff hook, too. I was so caught up in the struggle I didn't realize it was a dolphin until afterward. God, it's cute. I'm just moving to smaller quarters and won't have as much wall space. Any ideas? Thanks.

What dangerous fish do you have to worry about when swimming in south Florida? I remember someone saying something about tiger sharks and jelly fish. Nobody ever mentioned the long king fish we found in the water while deep sea fishing. The pelicans were more intimidating than anything though. Would it be probable to rule out an attack from a great white shark in south Florida? What other kinds of dangerous fish do you have to watch out for in place like Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach?
I'm going fishing in florida? I'll be on a pier fishing. What is the best lure/bait to use? I don't wanna catch a shark. I just wanna catch like a normal fish. Sorry I'm not much of a saltwater fisher. I stay mainly in freshwater.
I need some shark fishing advice, can you help? Ok well, my dream right now is to go shark fishing and catch a nice 5'+ shark. My Planned Set Up: Penn® 113H/114H Senator Reel/Slammer® Rod Combo - http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?hvarEID=2407780&hvarAID=vantage&cm_ite=Saltwater+%3E+Waders+%3E+Wading+Shoes&catalogId=10001&URL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.basspro.com%2Fwebapp%2Fwcs%2Fstores%2Fservlet%2FProductDisplay%3FstoreId%3D10151%26catalogId%3D10001%26langId%3D-1%26partNumber%3D89082%26cm_ven%3DAffiliate%26cm_cat%3DVantage%26cm_pla%3Dfeed%26cm_ite%3DSaltwater+%3E+Waders+%3E+Wading+Shoes&langId=-1&cm_pla=feed&cm_cat=Vantage&cm_ven=Affiliate&partNumber=89082&storeId=10151 40lb Test Line (micro or mono, cant decide!!!) 300lb Test Steel Leader Location: This is probably what I am most worried about! Their is a man-made cement ledge (the base of a bridge) that goes directly into 6' waters and then gets deeper. But the problem is that it isnt going over the ocean, so I dont know if their is that many sharks over their. Its about 100 yards from the open water. My plan is to catch ladyfish (which their is a bunch of over their), and put them into a bucket till I think I have enough. Then right as the sun goes down cast in the fish 10-20 yards in (its deep water) and wait till something hits it. Do you think that I will be able to catch a shark in this location (this is florida panhandle/alabama coast)? Ive seen baby sharks but never any big ones their, also alot of dolphins their too which I know is not a good thing. Also do you think my rig will be able to handle most sharks? How big is the max for it? @joe g: if you have no fishing knowledge then don't try to answer, you can catch a 42" redfish with 6 lb test mono (my friend did it).

Can fishing off the beach in the panhandle of Florida with live bait attract sharks closer to shore?? If so, then WHY do towns/municipalities ALLOW fishing from shore, where people are all around swimming and such? I was on the beach in the water in the exact area near Destin FL just days before the girl was attacked and killed by a shark last summer. There was a guy fishing from shore down from us and as I was walking, I saw my first shark only 20 feet from the water/beach line swimming parallel to beach, not far from this guy who was fishing with, most likely, stinky fish bait/live fish. I don't know about you all, but being eaten alive by a shark is not at the top ot the list of ways to die, if I had to choose.
How do you preseve a shark head and fins? I was recently vacationing in Florida. I was watching a man fishing on the dock, he caught a shark. He dressed it on the deck because he was going to eat the meat; he said shark meat is the best. I received the head of the shark and the fins. I am a school teacher and I want to show the head and the fins to my students in a way that they can also feel the texture of the shark's skin. How can I preserve the head and fins in a way that this will be possible?
On a tour of Florida, the Pope took a couple of days off to visit the coast for some sightseeing.? On a tour of Florida, the Pope took a couple of days off to visit the coast for some sightseeing. He was cruising along the beach in the Popemobile when there was a frantic commotion just off shore. A helpless man, wearing a Chicago Cubs jersey, was struggling frantically to free himself from the jaws of a 25-foot shark. As the Pope watched, horrified, a speedboat came racing up with three men wearing White Sox jerseys aboard. One quickly fired a harpoon into the shark’s side. The other two reached out and pulled the bleeding, semi-conscious Cubs fan from the water. Then using baseball bats, the three heroes in White Sox jerseys beat the shark to death and hauled it into the boat. Immediately the Pope shouted and summoned them to the beach. “I give you my blessing for your brave actions,” he told them. “I heard that there was some bitter hatred between White Sox and Cub fans, but now I have seen with my own eyes that this is not the truth.” As the Pope drove off, the harpooner asked his buddies “Who was that?” “It was the Pope,” one replied. “He is in direct contact with God and has access to all of God’s wisdom.” “Well,” the harpooner said, “he may have access to God’s wisdom.. But he don’t know shit about shark fishing”. How”s the bait holding up?”

Was I shark bait today?????? I was floating on my back, without a care in the world today at Siesta Key Beach, Florida....when I realized I had a scrape on my knee. I could hear Jimmy Buffet singing "Fins" and I cautiously looked around.....I got myself so worked up, I got out of the water!!! Do you think a bleeding scrape on the knee was enough to attract a shark??? Kinda kidding....lol BUT...a kid had his thigh bitten last year because he had shrimp in his pocket to use for fishing....the shark smelled it and chomped down on his leg...seriously......
Where is the best beach in Florida? My husband and I are looking for a nice beach that isn't too crowded and has beautiful clear blue water and white sand. We are young but we're not much for the party seen. We like to do things like fish, comb the beaches for shells and shark teeth, and we like certain attractions like Seaworld or MGM and Universal Studios. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

WiseVibes Joke #12? On a tour of Florida, the Pope took a couple of days off to visit the coast for some sightseeing. He was cruising along the beach in the Pope-mobile when there was a frantic commotion just off shore. A helpless man, wearing a Chicago White Sox jersey, was struggling to get away from the jaws of a 12-foot shark. As the Pope watched, horrified, a speedboat came racing up with three men wearing Detroit Tigers jerseys aboard. One quickly fired a harpoon into the shark's side. The other two reached out and pulled the semi-conscious White Sox fan from the water. Then using baseball bats, the three heroes beat the shark to death and hauled it into the boat also. Immediately the Pope shouted and summoned them to the beach. "I give you my blessing for your brave actions," he told them. "Well," the harpooner said, "he may have access to God's wisdom, but he doesn't know much about shark fishing. How's the bait holding up?" Another Red Sox joke for all you Red Sox haters? On a tour of Florida, the Pope took a couple of days off to visit the coast for some sightseeing. He was cruising along the beach in the Pope-mobile when there was a frantic commotion just off shore. A helpless man, wearing a Boston Red Sox jersey, was struggling frantically to free himself from the jaws of a 25-foot shark. As the Pope watched, horrified, a speedboat came racing up with three men wearing New York Yankees jerseys aboard. One quickly fired a harpoon into the shark’s side. The other two reached out and pulled the bleeding, semi-conscious Red Sox fan from the water. Then using autographed Alex Rodriguez baseball bats, the three Yankee heroes beat the shark to death and hauled it into the boat. Immediately the Pope shouted and summoned them to the beach. “I give you my blessing for your brave actions,” he told them. “I heard that there was some bitter hatred between Red Sox and Yankee fans, but now I have seen with my own eyes that this is not the truth.” As the Pope drove off, the harpooner asked his buddies “Who was that?” It was the Pope,” one replied. “He is in direct contact with God and has access to all of God’s wisdom.” “Well,” the harpooner said, “He may have access to God’s wisdom but he doesn’t know squat about shark fishing. How’s the bait holding up?”
If your from Toronto or Montreal you'll get this one? On a tour of Florida , the Pope took a couple of days off to visit the coast for some sightseeing. He was cruising along the beach in the Pope mobile when there was a frantic commotion just off shore. A helpless man, wearing a TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS jersey, was struggling frantically to free himself from the jaws of a 25-foot shark. As the Pope watched, horrified, a speedboat came racing up with three men wearing MONTREAL CANADIENS jerseys aboard. One quickly fired a harpoon into the shark's side. The other two reached out and pulled the bleeding, semiconscious TORONTO fan from the water. Then using baseball bats, the three heroes beat the shark to death and hauled it into the boat also. Immediately the Pope shouted and summoned them to the beach. "I give you my blessing for your brave actions," he told them. "I heard that there was some bitter hatred between Leafs and Habs fans, but now I have seen with my own eyes that this is not the truth." As the Pope drove off, the harpooner asked his buddies "Who was that?" "It was the Pope, " one replied. "He is in direct contact with God and has access to all of God's wisdom." "Well," the harpooner said, "he may have access to God's wisdom, but he doesn't know shit about shark fishing... how's the bait holding up?"

Florida fishermen, have you noticed more sharks? We fish the intercostal area, in Edgewater, just north of mosquito lagoon. We have fished here for a long time, but lately when we go out, we can almost be we will catch a shark. We have caught several hammerheads from foot long babies to 4-5 footers. We always release, they are sure fun to reel in.
i just moved to cape Canaveral florida. i've been wondering what kind of fish these are? i go to the cocoa beach pier and as the waves come in there are these cute tiny little fish but as soon as i get out to my knees they get to be about 6 inches long. in the water they look grey flat and just like little mini sand sharks i caught some with a net and out of the water thex look like ordinary shiny silver fish. what's with the optical illusion. what are they.
Wade fishing? ive been wanting to wade fish on flats in sw florida for a while but i dont know if im totally prepared, i was planning on just wearing a bathing suit or jeans and some old sneakers, is that enough protection from stingrays, crabs, sharks, etc....? anything else i need?
Where can I find more info on the Florida "sea monster" circa 1929? Inherited a 1929 edition of "The Wonder Book of Knowledge and it contains a story and pictures from "The American Magazine" about a giant fish (has gills) that looks like a cross between a shark and a whale, although not a whale-shark. It may have been a baby (cartilage not bone) and lived at great depths, based on the tiny eyes and lack of dilation. Tried many different searches on the subject and can't find anything further on it. The yacht that eventually captured it was the "Samoa" owned and operated by Charles H. Thompson and the creature was eventually landed on beach in Miami, according to the article. Found it fascinating and wish to learn how true this story and picture actually is...or isn't.... Nautical records that old are not online or even exist anymore and what little has survived could take years to read...also discovered the event pre-dates 1917.....
Going to the St. Joseph Bay Area in Florida tonite, suggestions please? I'm going to Cape San Blas, visiting Mexico Beach, Panama City and possibly Tallahassee. Aside from scuba diving, horse back riding on the beach, kayaking, fishing...what other interesting things are there to do? Also how common are shark attacks in that area? What kind of predatory fish should I keep in my 900 gallon fish pond? Theres already a 23 inch ID shark in there. I was thinking about a Florida Gar. A couple plecos to keep the water nice too. And theres no filter so I'm using plants as a natural filter to clean the water, and yes there will be lots of plants, i'm not stupid.
Opinions for best fishing rigs for Florida fish Saltwater? I need to know which reel you guys thing would be better for Tarpon Cobia and Kingfish in the gulf and Atlantic. Either a 3/0 Penn Senator Special or a Shimano Speed Master. I have lots of fishing experience and techniques. I usually put my weight out and use a clip with live bait. I can not get my 6/0 Penn Senator out far enough because its a shark reel and very hefty so I want to downsize. So tell me what you think. OHH and it needs to be able to cast really well. help me identify this fish!? i caught a strange looking fish on a pier in Florida and i have no idea what it is and cant identify it. the fish itself was green and rather soft and slimy, it had no scales, the front end of rather looked like a frog's head, but the back of it looked a bit like an eel, just a little bit behind the eyes there was a pair of small fins. i asked an old Asian lady fishing near me and she said it was a dog fish. i looked dog fish up but i could only find the beer and many a species of sharks. the fish had small teeth and its mouth looked somewhat like a catfish's mouth. it swallowed my hook, and that and the slime that coated it reminded me of a variation of a catfish. i caught in a saltwater bar off of a pier if it helps any.

What kind of fish arein Cape Coral Florida freshwater canals? You may not believe me but i saw a wierd looking fish while i was fishing for blue gill in a freshwater canal near the Cape Coral hospital. It was about 3 or 4 foot long and 1 1/2 foot wide,it was a yellowish color almost white, similar to a shark,it had 2 small wisker like things pointing down near its mouth, its mouth was below its head not like usual fish.Ive seen it twice on 2 diffrent days, the second time i saw it it was much larger, about 6 foot long and 2 foot wide.I hade a small live bluegill in a bucket and threw it on a hook and rod near the fish but it would not take it.At first i did think it was a shark but it couldnt of it was in freshwater and for a shark to get there from saltwater connections it would of have to swim very far and it surely would of died before it got there from all the freshwater.I then thought it could be a sturgeon but there arent any sturgeon fish in florida. Just tell me what you think it could of been. Thank You..

When do Sharks lay there young? I am curious about a few different species I am not sure if some sharks are different or not but the ones im interested in are bulls, blacktips, nurse, tigers. Those are the main ones. I will be living in Florida and have heard that most lay there eggs or pups in the summer like june or july but also heard bulls lay them this time of year even in the cooler gulf temps of Florida. If someone is a professional on this stuff I would REALLY!! like to talk about this stuff a buddy and I know a lot about sharks we fish them on a conservation level and are starting our own surf shark fishing show and I want to know even more about them! thanks

I am going shark fishing but im not sure if I have the right tools? I am going shark fishing tomorrow in Northern florida around destin and I have a rod with a 20 lb line on it, im not sure if I can catch a shark or not, also I plan on fishing from the beach
Why do I keep on catching Bluefish on shark-bait? I'm trying to fish for sharks from the beach in Florida. I used a whole lady fish as long as my forearm as shark-bait and I caught a bluefish which was a bit biggerr than the lady fish I used for bait. I usually fish at daytime ( I know shark fishing at night is better but a lot of shark fishing videos are during the day as welll) I cast it out about 100 yards what am I doing wrong that I keep getting bluefish instead of sharks ? I don't actually cast it 100 yards .I go out with the kayak and cast it then .So all together I get it out 100 yards but that still doesn't answer why I'm catching bluefish instead of sharks ? What can I do to catch sharks instead of bluefish ?
Know how to surf fish? I'm going surf fishing in Florida soon, and it will be my first time. I actually haven't done any fishing at all since I was a little kid, so I could use some basic pointers. I just purchased a 8ft.surf rod/reel combo from Bass Pro Shops. I got some 6/0 circle hooks for in case I decide to fish for a shark or something big, but mainly I'd like to just try for some ladyfish or whiting. What size small hooks do I need and how about my line...what strength do I need? On that note, I don't know what size swivles to get, either. Also, what exactly is a "bottom fishing rig." A guy told me to try that, and I just nodded like I knew what he was talking about. I plan on just getting some shrimp and bucktail jigs from the local bait shop when I'm down there. Any other tips would be greatly appreciated.
Is it illegal to sell shark meat in Florida? Let's say I went out to the beach and caught a six to ten foot shark, normally I would just release it and get back to fishing. What if I were to take it home and eat it? Is that illegal? Furthermore, what if some one wants to buy the shark? Would I be legally allowed to sell it to them? Let me add that I respect all life, and would only end another creatures life if it were being used and not carelessly wasted.
What types of sharks live around Marco Island Florida? Recently I was at a house we rented for vacation that sits on an inland canal on Marco Island. We looked in the canal and up came a large fish (4-5 feet in length) for a breif second. We didn't get to see it's head. The tail looked just like a great white shark with it's shape but it's main fin seemed to be spikey or spiney like a marlin. Was this a shark or a large saltwater fish?
How to catch a shark in Brevard County, Florida? Im going to be fishing at the Port Canaveral Jetty Park in Brevard County and I really want to catch a shark. I have seen lots of sharks caught here but I'm unsure on what to use. Can anyone help me out? I have the rods and all I just need to know what type of bait to use and any other hints. Thanks
Why can I still not catch sharks? Okay so I live in Florida and am new to shark fishing, I have yet to catch my first shark or even get a bite yet and I'm not sure why, http://www.tx-sharkfishing.com/shark-fishing/shark-fishing-leaders/ I followed these exact instructions on making my leader. I use horse mullet cut in half for bait although I am going to make double hook leaders so I can use whole mullet, I want to use ladyfish but have a hard time finding them... but anyways I kayak my bait a good 300-400 yards out from beaches and leave them there for hours before checking on them and have yet to receive any action... I do this around sunset as well.. Can you offer any advice to a novice sharker? Also I am going for sharks in the 4-10 foot range and I have a setup that can handle it.
Are there great white sharks in Florida ? I went to Florida in May to Cocoa Beach and Daytona and something hit my leg at Cocae , pretty sure it was a medium sized fish thrown in by the waves but it made me curious if there are great whites in Florida. Yes I know it wasnt a shark that hit my leg I'm just saying it made me think.
How to make money fishing on the side? Hey everyone, I have been living in Tampa Florida for 8 years now and i fish all the time anything from catching bait fish to sharks. I was just wondering if it is possible to make a little money on the side from doing this. I have a full time day job but i enjoy fishing so much it would be nice to make some extra cash. If anyone has any input on what to fish for and where to sell it to would be greatly appreciated.

need help shark fishing line? ok. i shark fish on florida beaches. I use a penn senator 6/0 filled with 50 lb mono. theres like 475 yards i think. i caught a really big nurse estimated weight around 150-200lbs and about 7 ft long the other day. My first big shark over 3 foot but it didnt fight AT ALL! It let me reel it in the whole time. i had no idea it was going to be even close to that big. i thought it was a little black tip or something. anyways i was thinking if i cut off most of the yards of the 50 lb mono and leave about 10 yards backing. i should spool it with 100 lb power pro 300 yards. since i will have plenty of line left to be added to the reel i was thinking about filling the rest of the reel with 80 lb mono for a topshot. im thinking i should get a total of around 600 yards. if this sounds dumb or if there is a better way to get more line please explain. i have only like 40 bucks so only 1 spool of 100 lb power pro. thanks
