Surf Fishing Central Florida? I live in Volusia County, and usually do my surf fishing in New Symrna, however are there any other good spots to go that are close to here? Also, would love to know what the good surf fishing websites are for Florida, preferably Central-focused?
Any suggestions on a good place in Central Florida to do some bank fishing? I don't have a boat or access to a boat but, I love to fish! Can anyone suggest any places in Central Florida (in or near Volusia County) where fishing from the banks you can still catch fish and not just be drowning some worms? lol Also would love to find a place that is safe for my young children to fish and be able to catch something! Would love to spark their interest in the sport of fishing.

Fresh water fishing in Florida? Where is the party here in Florida? I want to go out and fish bass, carp, and catfish. What are some of the spots people fish in Central Florida? Thanks, But I dont eat fish so the bass, carp, or the cat fish dont have to be worry about being my dinner. I just do it for the fun factor and its relaxing. I like to fish carp and cat fish because they sometimes give a hell of a fight.

What kind of fish live in creeks and streams? There's like a creek/stream in my neighborhood with little fishies and I have no clue as to what kind of fish it is. I live in central Florida and these little suckers are no bigger than a thumb and are greyish. If I were to try to keep them as pets what kind of water would I use, would I need filters, how big should the tank be, and what kind of fish is it so I can read up on them. Thanks!
What should my friend and I fish for if we just want to catch anything? We fish from her dock on a large, central florida lake, and a lot of the water around her dock that we can cast to is only 2-4 feet. So far, we're catching bass, bream and 1 catfish, with minnows, worms or shiners. We release everything and just want to catch as many as possible, for fun. How should we set up our lines, (we use sinker floats, but how far above the hook?) and what size hook is best for the widest variety of fish? Thanks for any advice.
What lures are BASS hitting on this time of year? ? I live in central florida and fish in local ponds and small lakes and have been using a super Fluke watermelon seed color. They have simply stopped hitting it. The water is still around the upper 60s duriing the day and weather has been really nice and warm. We did just have a cold front come thru but they stopped biting about a week ago. i fish morning afternoon and evening and mid day. with no results. What should i switch to. Thanks in advance for all answers. good luck BASSIN
what type of rod power would you rather have? (ultra light, light, medium light, medium, medium heavy, or heavy) i just started fishing and i got a Rapala Husky medium spinning rod. i live in central Florida and am surrounded by lakes, but i want to be able to fish the ocean (off and on shore) and rivers. so what do you guys think about the rod could it fish well in all those locations?
Short Vacation Suggestions in Florida? I live in Florida and am wanting to take a small 3 day vacation with my boyfriend within the state. We don’t want to go to Miami, Clearwater/Tampa, or Orlando…we’ve been there tons of times :) any suggestions? We live in Central Florida. We’re hoping some place not so “party-ish” but not dead either…just nice place to visit or tourist town or hidden beauty type place…we like the outdoors and the ocean but are not really into fishing…thanks in advance for your help! oh, and we are college kids on a budget so...some places that won't break the bank!! Cheap (but not trashy) = great! lol
What size hook and swivel should we use to fish for either bream or bass in my freind's lake? We fish with minnows off her dock for fun and have caught both. Is it too late now, for bass? (Central Florida). We need to stock up on hooks and swivels - which is the best size for catching either one? We also catch and release so is there a hook that's good for that but doesn't also make us lose them before we land them? Sorry for so many questions, thanks for answering any!
Anybody know a good and inexpensive live shiner fishing guide for Lake Tarpon and/or other Central, FL lakes? I asked this question before and never got a definitive answer. I'm trying to decide to go down to Florida in late March-late May. What is the best time to get huge bass with live golden shiners? Also, I am planning definitely hiring a guide to fish Lake Tarpon but also hiring a guide to fish another lake like Okeechobee but I don't know what other lake is a hot spot RIGHT NOW. I think I heard that Okeechobee isn't that good because of the drought. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
My line stays coiled up? I use TRILENE 17lb test and i fish almost every day. I find that after a few weeks the line stays coiled up and i have to change the line. Is it b/c of the cold water , or should i soak it in water? is there a line that does not do this. I fish in central florida in lots of local ponds and alot of times the is heavy cover..and the fish average 3-8 lbs tnx
What lure is the easiest for a beginner to learn and actually catch fish on? Also is there one that works well, in both shallow water *and* open, weedless areas? Casting is from a dock, without the use of a boat and lake is low near the dock, with lots of weedy areas, but mostly weedless where it *does* get slightly deeper, a good long cast out. Sorry for the complications, but thanks, in advance, for any help. Central Florida area.
why does the marine life in S. Florida. freak-out every year or so? Central florida is my home, and over the years I've heard some serious fish stories but the newest one, about the sting ray, baffles me. The bariccudas a few years back and the hundreds of sharks swimming up the east coast close to the daytona shore were strange as well. i'm wondering whats -up? I never realized sting rays flew...
Aerator and a Protein Skimmer for a livewell? I am doing some research for an "at home livewell" I am trying to build for my bait fish. The main question is, if I use a protein skimmer for my livewell, would I also need to install a separate aerator to keep my fish alive? Or will the Aeration in the Protein Skimmer keep the water well oxygenated? My marine(saltwater) livewell will be holding finger mullet and menhaden. The livewell will be placed in the shade outside in central florida. I do not intend on spending much money on this project, so a chiller will not be used. However, I will consider installing a heater in the colder months. I plan on using a 20 gallon storage bin with sand bottom to breakdown bacteria, a pump for water circulation, Protein skimmer, and an aerator (if necessary) Do I need a seperate aerator? How many fish do you think 20 gallon tanks will hold sufficiently? Thanks This livewell is for SALTWATER LIVE SAND will produce my beneficial bacteria. Please read my question carefully.
Lawn pond / Fish pond? I was thinking of building a fish pond in my backyard within the next few weeks. Should I be worried about snakes entering the pond to eat the fishes? I live in Central Florida.
Need suggestions to control algae/waste in a large pond ( man made )? I work at a park, and we have a 1.5 million gallon pond that houses Japanese Koi and goldfish. when the pond was installed the park management opted not to install a filter system, and now 7 years later itd be very difficult ( and more expensive ) to retrofit some mechanical filtration into the pond. what we are looking for is some kind of bio-logical replacement. we had catfish but either they died or are just in effective. at this writing the pond is undergoing a cleaning and will have fresh well water pumped in. I'm thinking maybe some snails, but not sure if the fish will eat all of them ( they're swimming pigs ) i have also considered some other algae eater fish. temperature in the water usually hovers around 55, and the deepest section of the pond drops to 4 feet so the fish will have somewhere to go to for the occasional cold day. we're in central Florida, so most fish are available. so any suggestions regarding fish are feasible
Something weird in the sky? Recently I was camping with some friends and we went out at around 4:30 in the morning to go fishing and we saw a huge thing in the sky, it looked like an isosceles triangle ( the odd angle looked about 35 degrees) there was no curvature at all and it had 2 white lights in the back with a red one in the middle. to be specific about the shape it was a triangular prism. I was in Central Florida at the time.
what kind of fish is this? i found a small purple colored fish about 4 inches long and has a rounded head. and looks to be small spike type bumps on head. i live in central florida and it was in a freshwater lake
Southern bank, wading, kayak fishers, you know what time of year it is? Yep, it's spring, and the gators are doing their things. If they're not pairing up and getting territorial where you're at now, they will be soon. My father's our local nuisance alligator trapper for the State, and I can tell you east central Florida is really waking up as far as the dinosaurs go What does this mean to you? It means it's time to start watching your steps, alligators lazing in the sun after a cold front don't want to get back into the water, it's cold, and they're cold and they can't warm themselves up. They're sluggish, they're moody, and the males will be looking for girlfriends any time now. Just like the fish are looking for warm spots in the water, so are the gators, and trust me, they're in salt, too, and they'll look just like a barnacled log or something until you're right on top of them. They're also hungry... they probably haven't eaten much or at all for a few months. Catch and release is a great thing when done correctly, but I've watched people unhook fish, flop them in the water, and a gator comes up to take advantage of the wounded fish. Make sure you take the time to make sure the fish is alright before letting it go. Trash fish... just cuz you don't want it, don't mean Mr. Gator doesn't, I watch people kill "trash" fish and leave them on the bank. After they're gone, here comes Mr. Gator to clean up the mess. This is incidental feeding, it decreases their natural fear of humans just as much as directly throwing them bread or whatever. 95% of alligator attacks in Florida are linked to feeding and enticement..... sooooo..... refrain from taunting or throwing rocks, etc. as well, please. Also, little gators following your lure in, are NOT attacking you. Little gator is just as interested in topwater as bass or anything else are... -more- If you happen to hook a gator, reel it in where it doesn't have a long line coming out of it's mouth, but not so close that you're putting your hands in danger and cut it loose, if it's a big gator, just cut it off, unless you're using huge weight test line, it won't cause the gator any damage. Lures and hooks will work their way out, I've seen gators with as many as a dozen catfish spines in the roof of their mouths, a hook won't hurt them that bad. If a gator's following you around while fishing and acting aggressive or bold, please be safe and contact your state wildlife commission to bring it to their attention, especially if it is in an area that would pose a danger to children or pets. It's bad enough when people can't read no swimming signs or decide to get trashed and go swimming, but when it happens to a kid........ Anyway, just wanted to remind everyone, and let those who don't know about alligators who may be fishing in their habitat what's up.
16ft Gheenoe with trolling motor? Good or bad? I'm thinking about buying a 16ft Gheenoe, it has no engine. I'd most likely buy a trolling motor. I live in central Florida with lots of lakes and small canals with much wildlife and fish. I would want to be able to putter around on a lake and canals/streams for a couple of hours. I guess my question is what kind of trolling motor do I need, like pounds of thrust. How long would it typically last with 1 decent marine battery? Would a Gheenoe make a good boat for lake fishing and just generally exploring the swamps (everglades, st johns, etc...)?
A favor? ; ) (stupid 20 character minimum...)? Ok, so there's some benefit fishing tourney in... I forget now, I saw it in yesterday's paper, inland central Florida somewhere, I'll double check tomorrow if anyone wants more details, but it's the only place in Florida to catch barramundi (sp?) and it's only (if I remember correctly) $300 per person, so does anyone have $600 I could borrow so me and B can go try for some of these? I'll share prizes if we win anything... they're only gonna let 75 people fish, and it includes food and everything....... *smirk* Just kiddin' with everyone, they sound like they're fun to catch, but if someone were to throw $600 at me, that would be the last thing I'd spend it on right now... Not kiddin' about the tourney, just kiddin' about wanting to borrow money.
here is another question for the fisher people? Some times I can get big into bass fishing. I go threw fazes. for now im on hunting and pobably will be for a long long time. but I also love fishing. Im from Ft Lauderdale. We have a lot of canals and everglades. When fishing the local canals I had great luck with the super fluke, watermelon red. I didn't do to good in the everglades although I didn't go there much. However Im living in central Florida now and there are very large lakes. some are smaller. I had some luck with the super fluke but when I fish in larger waters I dont do very good. I also dont have a boat. there is one place that isn't really a lake but its still a larger body sort of area. A lot of people fish there so it may be over fished but I dont know. I only went there once. Any tips on what I should use.
Am I damaging my Crown Vic? I bought a 18' Sea Pro center console fishing boat that weighs about 1600 pounds empty plus gear and trailer(two wheel trailer), so my question is am I damaging my 1995 Ford Crown Victoria LX with a 4.7L V8. I usually travel about an hours drive to the beach to go fishing and is turning off the over drive the right thing to do. The only other car I have is a 93' Buick Roadmaster with a 5.7L V8, I began towing the boat with this but it was in such bad condition I put a hitch on the Crown Vic a year ago to go to the Florida keys from central florida for fear of the buick breaking down. The Vic made it I'm just worried if I"ve been damaging it slowly. I have recently had problems with the front end, the steering ball joints but I am not sure that it is because of the trailering. Any help appriciated.
Underprivileged Pets? My life of 50 yrs has been filled with numerous animal companions to love & provide for. I think back & remember all the love & happiness they have brought to me & I also can't forget the 8 pets I have now who I love, cherish & protect everyday. ALL STRAYS OR ABANDONED ! In the past I could afford to have pets, no problem. Our economy, it seems is making this providing part harder & harder for me & so many others. I live in North Central Florida, just been here a yr,(WRONG MOVE) moved my 8 babies w/me from Ohio. As i go about my daily business i can't help but notice the MANY, MANY, MANY STRAYS in this area ! So many MORE than the busy metro of Cincinnati I left. There is not a day that goes by that I, who, would notice these things, neglected dogs, cats in fields, on busy roads & hiways, at Walmart p-lot, the library, church, EVERYWHERE! While returning home the other day I saw 5 kittens huddled (5-8 wks old) together in a field wet & starving....i took them to the local Animal Shelter & they REFUSED them!!!NO ROOM! after it took me 1 hr. to russel them to my car for they were starved & scared to death! There is a lady 1/2 mile from my house who is very unfortunate monetarily with 35 PLUS cats & dogs ALL STRAYS who i help when i can with leftover & un-liked food etc. She doesn’t know how to stop taking them in. She sez “they just keep coming!” SHE TOOK THEM IN ! WE JUST CRIED because i knew i was burdening her but what were we to do ??? Use them for fishing bait like the guy down the way!? NOT US! our LOVE saved them for now!I know there are many people things to worry about in our world today....but I mean it i see dogs on the streets, on the dangerous hiways, around dumpters, or dead, running, starving, cats missing a leg, missing an eye, 2-5 dogs cats in the parking lots of Walmart, the gas station,up to 2-6 EVERYDAY here in Live Oak, FLA & am just heart broken!!! I think sometimes i shouldn't go out for what I might SEE!! I carry around 1/2 bags of dog/ cat food a bowl & a pitcher of water ALWAYS & when I see a stray baby I get honked at, yelled at because i am feeding them & protecting them for just a moment on the side of the road!! I couldn't take them home, i would just end up like my neighbor w/ so many neglected babies to feed...and i can BARELY feed myself & my 8 STRAYS, I've acquired in the last 12 yrs on my SS income!!!! PLEASE pray that God Almighty helps us with this struggle. FEED your pets, keep them close & DO NOT LET them stray to worry ME & others who truly care!??? I feed mine bread soaked in chicken broth when i cant pay $20 plus dollars for their food almost every wk. I WOULD NEVER let them stray from me to become homeless !!!! BUT it seems SO MANY HAVE! I tried to ignore this...BUT I CAN"T... i wish i had a happy story to tell...but its not there!!! I have plans to start an "underprivileged pets" something to help those who need food for their babies but people look at me like I am crazy...but something has to be done....soon! We do without so much during these recent times. DESPERATELY robbing Peter to pay Paul to have enough worthless green paper to BUY MY BABIES CARE & FOOD! HELP HELP I am in constant prayer for the state of our world today...AND I pray & prayPrayPRAY prayHOPE believe have faith that our babies will somehow be saved, loved always & live in peace!!! before it is toooo late for them...and me! Much love & peace of mind to us all! Please hear our cry's.
Can you spearfish in surf? I live within 30 minutes of one of the last deserted beaches in Florida (Playalinda). If you walk past the last pier about half a mile there is no one in sight and a sunken barge a little bit off shore in the surf. Can you spearfish in the surf? Are there lots of fish to be seen between the break and the sandbar? Also where can you spearfish in Florida without having a boat? Any spots near central florida?
AP biology ecology question? Fish kills occur each summer in many central Florida freshwater ecosystems. These are most common in lakes surrounded by citrus groves, farmlands, or extensive development. These fish kills are caused by hypoxia (oxygen depletion) in the ecosystems. Place the order of events that causes the hypoxia. I. Large amounts of nitrates and phosphates draining into the lake or river II. Rapid algae growth III. Rapid bacterial growth on dying bacteria IV. O2 depletion V. Fish death

Looking for Guinea Pig breeders in Central Florida? Okay, so I want to get a guinea pig from a breeder and finding a breeder through online sources has proven difficult, very difficult. The every time i think I've found one, turns out the site is old and the breeder no longer operates. The one possible option I've managed to fish out is about two hours away. So, anyone in Central Florida(Deland/Deltona/Daytona Beach) know of breeders that perhaps don't advertise on the web?

Legal to take fish caught on Florida beaches? I'm a pretty normal beach-goer to beaches near/around central florida (New Smyrna and Daytona are good examples) and I'm curious to know if it's legal to keep fish that are caught from the ocean? I was in Cocoa not long ago and saw a guy take a fish that he caught and clean it and such for a future meal, but not sure if it's legal to just take fish without any precautions or anything taken initially. Thanks for any help.

I want to go camping for 3 days or so in an area that is near water so i can catch fish and small game and cook em but where there is nobody else around and i can just grill and sleep in my car rather than backpack and pitch a tent (I don't have the equipment for long backpacking treks). What kind of freshwater fish is this? The fish is from central florida. It is freshwater, about 3 inches long, and yellowish. It is slim so while its 3 inches long its less then an inch tall. It is very friendly and lives in a community tank. It has a large face with large eyes and a forward mouth. It prefers the bottom of the tank though its not a bottom feeder. Its also much faster then the other fish in the tank. Also the fish is still young so it could get much bigger. Any idea what kind of fish it is or how I can find out what kind of fish it is?
Fishing in Central/North California? I live in Marina, Ca, near Monterey, but I'll go as far as an hour and a half in any direction. I'd like to find a good place to fish. Don't want charters or anything, just somewhere I can go out myself and throw out a line. Tips on how to fish in California would help too. I'm from Florida and don't know anything about fishing over here.
